#11 Posted: 11/21/2010 9:22:11 PM any value in backing england has gone now, but i dont factor in the draw as with todays quick play, make up time, etc i dont think there'll be one draw so either back one team or the other |

So what price would you need to get to consider England retaining/winning the ashes as 'value'

#15 Posted: 11/23/2010 12:52:56 AM South Africa didn't find it hard beating Australia in Australia.
I would say that England's bowlers are just below South African standard that series. If they swing the ball, they will be on par with the South African bowlers.
Their batting is just slightly lower because of questionable players like that pedestrian Trott and out-of-form Kevin Pieterson.
The Australian team is worse than the one that fronted up against South Africa with the decline of a few players and the lack of improvement in some bowlers such as Mitchell Johnson.
With that in factor, England will win. |

#16 Posted: 11/23/2010 1:52:34 AM Bat or Bowl at Gabba ?
Former Warwickshire batsman Penney is now assistant coach of Queensland, who play their home matches in Brisbane says
“That’s a difficult one and one I can’t answer,” Penney said. “Most sides want to bat first in a Test match but Brisbane is slightly different to most pitches. If you have batsmen that haven’t played at Brisbane before you might be tempted to stick them in.”

#17 Posted: 11/23/2010 2:09:05 AM Depends what the pitch is like. If the pitch is going to be great for batting on day two, you can either bat day one and tell your batsman to be defensive on the opening day and hope they don't crumble. Or you send the opposition in and hope you take the wickets.
I would probably bat first. Bowling first is risky. |

agree, if you bat and can get a great score, you will be in charge. Bat to 1 hour before stumps on second day would be great

#22 Posted: 11/26/2010 3:46:29 AM Yeah, I like it, Rod. I still think the test will be a draw but Australia should cover that total. England should counter attack on Day 4. |

#23 Posted: 11/26/2010 11:48:03 PM so much for that fearsome bowling attack and that brittle Oz middle order, tide turned, great partnership, england playing for a draw, might get it as well as that pitch does look very flat |
