Hah, the place has been open 3 days & I've been there twice already. Tell ya what though...those $6.50+tax Heinekens add up especially when you average 1 a race. Anyway.......
Smaller than expected crowd today.
Big boys like Pletch, Catalano, Dutrow and others haven’t entered many so far. Surprised to see trainer Rudy Rodriquez so active early here; he usually shows up a little later in the meet. Tons of scratches today left an 8 race card. But it was good to hear that Calder horsemen & GP settled the barn cost argument with GP picking up the entire tab. Should see normal nice size fields this weekend.
Joe Rocco has been riding real well so far but Johnny V is off to a slow 1 for 10 start. Lezcano won 2 back to back today & were heavy chalk. Rosario didn’t race in the last 4 races. He’s getting hammered at the window no matter what he is sitting on…
Mott had a good looking firster in filly Natural Rush but as it is his style he doesn’t try hard in their first. The board said it all @ 9-1 for this Indian Charlie 2 yr old. Can’t knock Mott’s methods so I’ll be looking for this one when she runs back. Javier got DQ’s on the 4-5 chalk when he came out & bothered Rocco. Looked like a good call to me.
Midwest Thoroughbreds looks like they are loaded for bear this meet. Ness is training & Javier has 1st call. He won by about 10 in the 3rd on I Am American.
Rocco won the 4th holding on to beat Rosario who was closing with the 2nd choice. Cohen gave the chalk a crappy ride going wide the whole race. WTF?
An $80 bomb in the 5th left many of us mumbling & I really don’t remember much about the race other than I lost.
Lezcano was on 2 heavily bet winners in the 6th & 7th. Really like his riding style and rarely do you see him dump a race like Cohen did.
Elvis just held off Lanarie who was closing fast. Javier was on the chalk as he usually is in the last but something went wrong & he pulled up his mount.
I’ll be out there again Saturday.
