Could it be that the horse would fail a post race drug test.... He was late for the detention barn this week. Crooked trainer

Just shows us again how fragile these animals truly are.

What a damn shame...

Horses should be taking a month off between races, not 2 weeks.  The Triple Crown is an antiquated, vile treatment of horses.  Each race needs to be spaced out over a month, but the best interest of the horse was never the concern.

Trainers like D. Wayne Lukas would probably prefer that the races be spaced out over a week, as he is notorious for running young horses to the ground and ruining their careers early.

The Triple Crown has a storied history: of animal abuse, that is.  Running in those 3 legs almost assures a short career for that horse.  The owners that do so have NO concern for the welfare of their horse..

I equate this to having a human win a marathon, then asking them to repeat the feat a few days later.  Then do it one more time if you somehow win and don't break down the second time.

IMO it was that he could not run with the nasal strip, they bleed if they struggle to breath under intense exercise.
strip outlawed in NY   fkn jerks...
but, they will give lasix to stop bleeding...
NYRA should write a book on how to fuk up the racing industry...
just sayin

It just goes to show how special the '70s really were.
The music kicked behind; the Portland Trail Blazers (a 200:1 long-shot) won the NBA title ; we had a strong middle class; and we got to see the greatest horse ever win the TC in Secretariat.

Long live the 70s!!!

Remember all those impressive so called gallops over the Belmont track in the last 2 weeks in preparation???  How much exercise can these spinidly legs take?

Drug O'Neil loved the spotlight and wanted all the press he could get so darn the horse is what happened here, IMO. But then again maybe the owner decided not to screw up the stud fees with a loss in the Belmont? Just blabbering here! I didn't have him winning anyway!

As dirty as they probably are, they would  NOT just blow a chance at winning a Triple Crown and horse racing history, even though it is cruel to run the horse this frequently.

No blabber, G315.....this thing just stinks al the way through and soemthing just doesn't seem right. Could be that they WERE caught doing something nasty and this was a way of savcng face.

My guess is that racing officials wouldn't want to announce the day before the Triple Crown that the contender was juiced in the Derby and Preak,

The one I feel sorry for is Gutierrez. He's a great story and was 2-1/2 minutes away from immortality!

Belmont officials told O'Neil he couldn't boil IHA oats (to prevent colic),he threatened to withdraw the horse at that time in todays DRF page #2.....No nasal strip....But a huge $$$ if he had won the race...still smells bad.....

Yep, Gutierrez certainly got screwed here! The poor kid was busting his behind for these guys and  even riding today to learn the track.

I agree that the NYRA was involved in this decision. What da hell does a nasal strip mean to the outcome of a race? But drugs are OK? Ya gotta be kidding and think everyone is friggin stupid!

No doubt about it! He was so appreciative to just get a chance to win one major race, let alone the TC.

Two epic finishes by a horse out of nowhere to make history and now all the anticipation and excitement looking forward to tomorrow is gone in a flash...
