So I got boxed for trolling Boom_Boom's thread. Shit happens. This week’s top 10 features a lot of disappointment as many of my previously strong top 10’ers lost outright. This will inevitable force me to leave in some shitfest undefeated teams that barely got by bad unranked opponents on more than one occasion.
College football lost its charm every since the 4-team playoff system was
introduced.
There once was a time when every game was a playoff game and the top teams had
to actually play 4 quarter to blowout teams they could. Scores like 59-3, 56-7,
55-10, 49-0 were common when top 10 teams played at home against unranked opponents.
No more
So
who is #1?
#1. Baylor – Anyone surprised? Baylor continues to be Baylor, but more
importantly, TCU destroying Texas just made TT look a lot better.. and Baylor
look a WHOLE lot better. It also made Cal and the Pac-12 plummet in value and potential value.
#2. TCU (up from #7) – The year’s Big 12 is the 2015 version of the dominant SEC and quite
possibly have two teams being represented in the playoffs. Scoreboard speak for themselves Baylor/TCu will be the GAME. OF. THE. YEAR.
------------- Here we take a relatively steep plunge -------------
#3. Utah (up from #9) – The win against Oregon looks as good as the win against Michigan now,
who won 4 in a row by convincing margins. Oregon rolled past Colorado as expected (at least that).
The Pac-12 has looked ugly, but if rankings were made today...
#4. Ohio State – I was sure at some point in time that OSU was gonna drop out
of the top 4, if not top 10. However, the BCS Champion is still undefeated and many
good top 10 teams dropped. There are now two wins against piss poor teams by 1
score, and zero quality wins.
#5. Clemson (up from "considering") – It looks ugly. But Clemson was up for the task, competed against
a strong ND team and walked out with a win. I am not sure I am ready to put
Clemson any higher (for now). It's a long road to the playoffs.
#6. Texas A&M (up from "considering") – Now with 2 wins against ranked opponents, if not for the
need for OT last week, I would easily put A&M a spot or two higher.
#7. Oklahoma (new) – Throwing in another Big 12 team who just won by 20 against a
ranked opponent, as many previously strong top 10 drop and make way.
------------- Here we take another plunge -------------
#8. Florida (new) – How does beating Ole-Miss by 28 sound? The same team that gave Alabama their lone loss.
#9. Alabama (down from #8) – Not too far behind, Alabama did blow out
Georgia, on the road, in a convincing fashion. Their lone loss came up against
a then strong Ole-Miss team by 1 score (who by the way, just got blown out by
Florida) and it took all of 5 turnovers.
#10. LSU (up from "considering") – It’s not because it’s an SEC team who “beat each other” and I’m
giving them this spot because of a 2-point win against Miss-St and a bad Auburn
team.. It’s because...
Considering:
Michigan State (down from #10) – Won against Purdue by a whole 3 points at
home. Play 4 quarters goddammit! It's still very close and #8-9-10 are all in the same boat right about now.
OUT Ie: Unacceptable losses
Georgia, Ole-Miss, Notre Dame, UCLA.
Thoughts:
No, Alabama is not an elite who will automatically make the
playoffs.
No Florida is not “back” into the SEC contention. The SEC is still very good
but I will go one and say, the Big 12 could be better this year. #8-9-10 will "beat each other up", and depending on margins of win and how other team do, two of them will probably drop out.
Summary:
3 from Big 12
4 from SEC (but weak spots)
1 from Pac 12, Big 10 and ACC
Playoff probables:
Best of SEC
TCU AND Baylor
Undefeated champ out of other 3 conferences. If two undefeated (there won't be), then loser of TCU/Baylor will get screwed, regardless of margin of loss.
Thoughts?
