Hey what a shock, an Arizona fan is unhappy that UCLA got two of the top four recruits in the country

It was all about adidas. Rumor has it if Shabazz went to UK or Duke that adidas was going to throw themselves under the bus to derail Shabazz's college career.

Shabazz will sign an adidas contract when he goes pro, just watch.

The real question is how much it took to get Noel at UK

Oh I don't know. Play for a coach that will get you to the NBA, possibly win a title, be on television all then time, play in front of 25,000 every home game, play at the winningest program of all time, have access to some of the best facilities in the country, etc........yeah....sure that took lots of $$. Whatever dude.....get a clue.

My best friend was offered money to play for Cal. He was also offered money from a couple other coaches in the SEC and ACC in addition to an ex coach who now works for one of the sports networks.

I also know of 2 other players who played for Cal who are in the NBA now that were 100% paid.

Keep having your head in the ground like an Ostrich.

I've actually talked to my friend and asked if he would ever be interested in writing a tell all book about his recruiting and how college coaches still pay players and things are still like the movie Blue Chips.

My first hand information trumps anythign you can say so go "kick rocks"

Yes......paid with a scholarship. So, where did your "best friend" end up? You really think coaches go around loosely offering money to players and nothing ever gets leaked by 18 year old kids, their families or friends? Come on dude.

Get real. Players still get paid its just not with cars and luxury items like back in the day. Coaches have gotten more discrete and careful.

John cal is known to be the dirtiest coach. He has a middle man that pays the kids! I know a guy myself.

No he was offered extra benefits other than a scholarship. When he was recruited I never asked him about that but he would tell me about his visits and being set up with girls and everything else at colleges he visited.

But one day watching one of the sports networks he saw an ex coach and goes "that guy was in my living room and offered me money if I went to his school". So I asked if any other coaches offered money and he goes hell yea and started naming off coaches. He explicitly mentioned Cal offering extra and said Cal really wanted him.

I asked why he wound up at the school he did and he said "I dont like being bought or handed things"

Not going to mention where he played or what years he played and where/what he is doing now because its not right.

Just dont be so damn naive to think these things have vanished from basketball in the past 20+ years. Collge Bball is more lucrative and has more money involved than it ever has. If anything players being paid happens more often now than it has in the past.

Look at football. Cam Newton, Reggie Bush, and who knows who else. Dont think for a second those are the only 2 players and that football is the only sport that it happens.

I'll tell you why he went to UCLA-playing time.

Duke and Calipari don't tell you if you'll get minutes. Looks like UCLA does.......

Ben Howland doesn't exactly have a poor track record for getting his guys ready and prepared to play in the NBA.

UCLA is only a couple years removed from being an elite program. Why would he want to go to Duke or Kentucky and be the 4th or 5th best player on the team?

Pac 12 tournament being in Vegas had nothing to do with this, because if Shabazz wanted to be close to home he would've signed with UNLV.  As mentioned previously this is all heavily due to Adidas, and for those that seriously don't think players get payed open your freaking eyes.  Just about every major successful college program is dirty.

UCLA is located between Bel Air, beverly hills and santa monica.  The kid is going to be in school for 1 years.

Lets see... Stay close to home and live in one of the wealthiest nicest areas in the country with some of the most beautiful women in the country. Also be in the 2nd largest sports market in the country and have the ability to meet celebrities and go out to clubs for free.

Kentucky has nothing on that and regardless of what Kentucky fans think... They get the top players because the money is right. You have to play those players from around the country because Lexington is not exactly the best place for entertainment. They have the most rabid and dedicated fans but the rest of it is not all that, compared to other schools.

UConn is in the middle of nowhere too... Only thing is NYC is 2 hours away and Boston is 1.5 hours away. Or you can go to the largest casinos in north america in 45 minutes or Hartford (if you really wanted to) in 25 minutes. Go to the beaches of RI or the cape in about 1.5 hours.
