Back to Margarito, yes he has great stamina and relentless, but the fact remains he has NO punching power. Even if he is 20lbs heavier than Cotto, when a fighter is out-boxed and has weak punches... his size makes him a punching bag.
You want soap-opera entertainment, watch 24/7. You want the reality, watch every fight of a fighter in order several times. Even most boxers won't do it, but to me it's exciting and the #1 factor in betting a fight. I trained fighter that hated watching tapes. The reason I found often is they miss the little things and the fight is boring. For instance, a fighter that points his front foot inward is very susceptible to a left hook (both orthodox), like Mayweather does and rolls because by the time a fighter has his feet straight, he got hit 1 to 3 times.

Back to Johnny: I copied the paragraph below about his childhood at this poor guy was talented but had a super rough life.
"Johnny Tapia's life began with tragedy. His father had reportedly been
murdered while his mother was pregnant with him. At the age of 8, his
mother Virginia was kidnapped, raped, hung, repeatedly stabbed, and left
for dead by her assailant. Tapia was awakened by her screams and saw
her chained to the back of a pick-up truck. He tried to alert others in
his household, but no one believed him. His mother was later found by
the police and taken to the hospital after she had crawled 100 yards to a
road. She died four days after the attack without regaining
consciousness. Raised thereafter by his grandmother, Tapia turned to
boxing at the age of nine."

Also, Tapia lost to Barrera, and two close decisions against Paulie Ayala who was a very under-rated fighter (his 3 losses:Morales, Barrera & an upset to a Japanese fighter left him 35-3), an upset KO and a SD loss to Archuleta.
Back then the Bantamweight to Flyweight had so much talent. Now a handful a fighters dominate, like Donaire, Gamboa, & Mares.. I didn't mention Broner as he will fight at lightweight unless he gets a big payday matchup against Gamboa or Donaire but I wouldn't hold your breath.

tapia's father was not murdered while his mother was pregnant, they were actually reunited a few years ago. check out the tapia autobiography mi vida loca. in this book he tells all, in tapia's prime he was one of the best(I would rate him in the top 75 ever), history will forget his brilliants unfortanitley, I have 17 tapia fights on tape, the internet only has a few, I will work on downloading the fights I have of tapia in his prime, that way people that are interested can see the truth. |
