Mayweather was hurting and walking down Ortiz who was 165 fight night.  You think he can KO/TKO Manny you're crazy.  Manny will be beating right hands all night long and Mayweather has the size and reach advantage.  I don't think Manny will be able to eat those punches for 12.

Jerseyboy89: I think you may have made a few typo errors, so I will correct them before it confuses members. Correct me if I'm wrong in my re-creation, as you know better what you meant as you wrote it:
"think he can KO/TKO Manny" switch (can = can't)
"Manny will be beating right hands" switch (beating = eating)
Now I think readers will not get lost easily, as we often do (lol)

Anyhow, Ortiz being 165lbs was a sign of early fatigue, reduced speed, less activity and overall weakness not being able to maintain a weight. The weight gain had no advantages. Fighters do it for many reasons. Michael Moorer when he had fought light heavyweight (175lbs), basically killed himself to make weight. The reasons for so many early KOs is that he was a natural heavyweight and was superior in strength and punching power, but he had to win fast as the weight fluctuations really fatigued him. Light heavyweight he was 22-0 (22 KOs; 7 1st Rounders). When he fought heavyweight 4 months later, his first 3 fights he weighed around 214. Then after a temporary break of 4 months he entered the ring 231lbs, and everyone screamed "steroids". He looked fat, yet less than a year before he was 56lbs lighter and was ripped muscle. Even as a heavyweight for his size he packed a punch. Imagine him with that power fighting opponents that were natural 185lbs, where he was natural walking weight over 200lbs. The catch was he had to KO opponents and early cause his fatigued set in quickly.
I doubt it was strategy for Ortiz to weigh that much as it created no positive advantages. Mayweather (assuming he fights Manny soon) will be ultra cautious only because Manny is the one opponent with quick hands, and can throw them at any angle, and even his arm punches cause flash knockdowns. Floyd is great at anticipating opponents, but Manny is unpredictable in the sense he mixes up and does small things and it causes many fighters problems and they have to re-adjust by backing out and resetting themselves for another engagement. I think Manny (assuming he lost) it would be by decision or possibly if Mayweather can connect several punches in the same area, it can cause swelling or cuts and the fight would be stopped (similar to Marquez as Manny went toe-to-toe and Marquez's face wasn't great, but Manny looked damaged after both fights).

My final thought is what I've said for almost 6 years. That these two will never fight! I assumed this even though Floyd in 2005 jumped up from 135lbs,140lbs then 147lbs at a true welterweight. While Manny fought 130lbs until 2008, fought Diaz at 135lbs and then Oscar at 147lbs. While people again said steroids, consider the fact that fighters with great power in lower weight usually have the genetics to build muscle and carry power upwards. Manny for a little guy had such large calves (the hardest muscle for bodybuilders to increase the size) which indicates a very muscular genetic structure. Tyson had tree trunks for legs. The point was taking into account a fighter's frame and his natural genetics (like large calves) indicates a person who can add muscular weight easily. Although it doesn't guarantee they will punch harder, or maintain speed and stamina as before. Floyd's increase in weight from under 130lbs was more a slow process as he aged and his muscles matured (like Hopkins) and fighting at welterweight. Manny started at 106 and moved up quickly, but he always had the ability to gain weight easily and his power indicated such. They both started careers in the mid 1990s, and Manny is also 2 years younger. I think Floyd is waiting to see a Manny fight that shows Manny has lost speed then maybe Floyd will seize the opportunity. Otherwise, it's a dream to believe they will fight. Year after year you read posts, how this or that will happen, then they will fight by years end... but it never happens!

floyd has slowed down quite a bit over the last few years, no doubt about it, manny will have the speed advantage in this one, as well as being a much better combination puncher,   but floyd is much stronger, much smarter, much better defensively,  floyd will win this fight, I do not beleive that it will be that close either, as I have stated many times before,    but the title of this thread is who is the king?  to me it's NONITO DONAIRE,  donaire just might be the best counterpuncher that I have ever seen in my life and that includes salvador sanchez and roy jones, he has good power, good speed and has showed a solid chin as well,   p4p if donaire was the same size as floyd and manny at this point I think that he would beat both of them.  so who is the king? NONITO DONAIRE

The last nine opponents of Donaire had a record of 240-15-7. Basically since 2007 the last nine of his opponents had a 91% win percentage, and excluding draws a 94% win percentage. He has knocked out all but one of his last nine (Rafael Concepcion), and the fighter he didn't KO was 119.5lbs, which is the heaviest opponent he has ever fought (two fights prior Concepcion weighed 127lbs). I believe adding Victor Conte has helped him significantly in strength and stamina.
