#3 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:16:37 PM Shouldn't Jarkko win this? He has a pretty good record on clay. Anyone know anything about Veic? |

#5 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:25:05 PM It's a close match a lot of the top players don't try their hardest in smaller tournaments underdogs are worth betting |

#8 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:37:07 PM Jarkko trying his hardest out there it looks like. It will be difficult for Veic. Veic really doesn't possess a game to bother Jarkko much, so he'll need Jarkko to be off his game to have any kind of shot here.

#9 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:38:20 PM This is the 1st time watching Veic. He's a poor man's Ferrer it looks like. Very poor lol.

#10 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:44:47 PM The start was a little shaky for Jarkko, but he seems to have settled in on his service games. Would like to see him be a little more competitive on the return games. Come on Jarkko! |

#12 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:45:58 PM Jarkko played well in the 1st set, but Veic didn't impress me much at all.
Here comes the rain..

By watching so far, it will take Jarkko being a complete nightmare for Veic to come back and win this match IMO. I don't think Jarkko backers have much to worry about here. Veic doesn't have the game to bother Jarkko much.

#14 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:53:09 PM We have seen some challenger level players make a little noise this week only to get outclassed by ATP level players.
Stebe, Bedene and now Veic. Don't believe the hype!
I watch challenger matches everyday, most matches are a complete shitfest.

#16 Posted: 5/3/2012 2:56:35 PM I think the rain will slow the court some, helping the more "clay courters" for the rest of the week.
Belgrade has to be one of the fastest clay courts I have ever watched. Belgrade and Munich are glorified red hardcourts.

Yeah, looks like Veic is a poor man's and less talented Ferrer. He's a counter-puncher that's fast and runs the balls down, but the court is too quick and he doesn't possess any kind of power to dictate anything. The match is pretty clearly on Jarkko's racquet.

#19 Posted: 5/3/2012 3:05:10 PM Blaz Kavcic just won a challenger event in Brazil. He had to fly from Brazil to Serbia in 2 days I think. That explains the beatdown Veic put on him.

#21 Posted: 5/3/2012 3:11:18 PM Kavcic has a very similiar game to Veic as well. He just plays better when they play I guess. They are both challenger level players right now though.
Kavcic gets destroyed when he plays at the ATP level. The last 2 times he's played at the ATP level, he's gotten destroyed. 1 and 1 by Veic here and 2 and 2 by Andreev at Buenos Aries 2 months ago.

#25 Posted: 5/3/2012 3:17:40 PM I just pulled up a live cam of the event. They have the court covered, stadium empty, lighting in the background. Let's hope it clears up so they can get this in. The match shouldn't last much longer! |
