#14 Posted: 3/2/2012 6:54:07 PM OK Guys here are the Rules: thanks to ACC for them, as I said before was anticipating him running it again this year but looks like hes not.
1) Contest will run from WGC-Cadillac Championship to the PGA Championship; The
rules I post here are for the regular season ONLY. I will post the
Covers Cup Playoff Rules later on in the seaosn as they don't matter
right now.
For those of you who played last year, we will use the same system for playoffs. Group A picks, Group B, picks, etc.
2) Top X regular season finishers get into the Covers Cup Playoffs is all you really need to know for now. will be determined by how many guys that play.
3) Each week you will pick two golfers; you can only use a golfer
one time in the regualr season; your score for the week is based on the
performance of your two picks.
4) When you post each week, it is YOUR responsibility to list your
used players to that point. Please list them at the beginning of your
post for all to see. I used to keep a big spreadsheet on used players
but it is very time consuming so the honer system worked fine before.
If you screw up and use a player twice, it's a gentlemen's game so
please call a penalty on yourself. Any other player is also allowed to
point out the mistake also with the same ramifications.
5) MAJORS count for double strokes; the Players Championship in May is also double
strokes this season. This is a new rule change but I think the TPC
deserves to be a major and has the best field for any tournament in the
world most years
6) If you fail to pick, you get +10 on the worst players score that
makes the cut and plays all four rounds for the weekend. If your
player starts but misses the cut, you get +5 above the worst player's
score making the cut and playing all four rounds for the weekend. If
your player starts, then WD's, you get +5 on the worst players score
making the cut and playing all four rounds for the weekend. If your
player makes the cut and it is one of those tournaments where they have
a MDF designation after the 3rd round, you also get +5 on the worst
player's score making the cut and playing all four rounds. I never
know when they will do the MDF (made cut-did not finish) so this is how
we will handle it when they do.
7) Plays MUST be posted before the FIRST player tees off in the
FIRST round- NO EXCEPTIONS! This is a contest that you must remember
to pick each week as missing a week is punitive. That being said, I
have always felt the more serious players find a way to remember. I
cannot make exceptions to this rule, regardless of whether your picks
have individually teed off yet or not so please don't ask.
8) I will try hard to have the standing updated by Monday night each week but most weeks by Sunday night.
9) If you pick the winner of a tournament, you get an extra -15
strokes on your score. If your pick is a FIRST TIME WINNER (as in ever
on the PGA Tour), you will get -25 added to your score. This may be
slightly different from what we did before but I think it works just as
well.
Proposed rule change to #6: If you fail to make pick before first player tees off its' only +5 the last place player making the cut or even +7 instead of the +10 last year as I know sometimes things come up and you cant get picks in/forget.
AJ, Jarrett, blairaj, big75dog, bluefin- let me know what you think. I think +7 or 5 is a little more fair.
Proposed new rule similar to #5: WGC-World Golf Championship events- the Cadillac and Bridgestone count for 1.5 strokes. ei- -1 would be -1.5 , -2 = -3, etc. similar to how majors are double only this is 1 and 1/2. let me know what you guys think. looks like we have a few new players and some returning ones, enough to start anyhow.
Contest will start next week at the Cadillac so have your picks in the thread I make for the tournament and not this thread. Picks in this thread will not count.

#16 Posted: 3/4/2012 11:44:35 PM I like the additional rule change as far as #6 is concerned...
how about +5 if you make a pick before 12pm on Thursday....+10 if not?

#17 Posted: 3/5/2012 9:44:33 AM Half will be hard to track. Also if you want to make the change of allowing late picks you should do something crazy like +20 of the 2 guys combined score that u pick. Does that make sense? If not it doesnt really matter who you pick if your getting +5 of last guy that makes cut. So if u do pick by noon and your guys finish even combined you get the score of +20. If one guy shoots -8 and the other mc's you get the last place guy that makes cut lets say +12. So your total would be +24.
You cant just say +5 instead because there is no point in wasting a good pick as regardless you are getting last guy that makes cut. |

#22 Posted: 3/5/2012 7:31:52 PM I disagree with the change for late picks. You pick on time or you get penalized. Period! Keep it the same penalty. |

#23 Posted: 3/5/2012 8:02:06 PM In general, I'm just grateful to anyone that's gonna run this, and I defer to whatever you find makes it easiest for you.
If I was going to propose a change, it would be a big one. Rather than keeping track of strokes, I'd just total the players finishing position, with the goal then to have the lowest total number at the end of the season.
My reasoning for this is simple, under the current format, a tournament like Milwaukee or Hartford can easily have a much bigger impact to the standings than say the US open, even when the strokes are doubled. Using position would essentially normalize all the tournaments, whether the winning score was -2 or -22, you'd still get the same credit for having the winner. You could easily then also adapt the other rules, by let's say giving 80 to any MC, and taking away points for first time winners, etc.

#24 Posted: 3/5/2012 8:02:23 PM well I never missed my picks, but people were bitching when they missed them begging for them to let them pick late tee times and garbage. It's up to you guys. I am cool either way.
