Spec - Arena is so flipping aggravating. He's played Villafaña LB a few times now and it's so blatantly obvious that he's not got it at this level. I love DaBeas, no one loves him more, but what the actual fvk is Arena thinking? He's got a LB who starts (or at least did last year) in the Bundesliga in Fabian Johnson and yet he plays him at left wing or not at all. Why on earth are either Villa or Beas even an option with FJ available?
I didn't hate to see Dempsey starting, and with only three days rest between matches I get not starting Wood, but I'd have loved to see Wood and Demps together with Morris coming on as a sub. I'm not quite as worried about the defense - when Brooks comes back, he and Cameron are a fantastic pair even if Cameron plays right mid at his club. Why Gonzalez didn't simply poke the ball out is mind boggling.
What I'm most concerned about is this team's general boringness - Arena may not be the most tactically astute, but his teams NEVER don't bring it and for two straight games they've been out-intensed on the field. For all Klinnsman's faults, except for those final two games, you always knew that they would score - these last two games have been pathetic from an attacking perspective.

Loose, geez, here we both go with Arena again. remember when Klinnsman got canne?, USA first match with Arena at the helm they blew out Honduras and everyone in the media treating him like he's gods gift to usa soccer.. next match they had to go to Panama and the entire world was on USA, i remember this cuz i was on Panama. (and put a writeup on it).....why? cuz of Arena.... this guy BLOWS when on the road, ultra-conservative vs teams where USA has the better quality. and its frustrating to watch.
people blamed him for that loss vs CR the other day, i kinda cut him some slack cuz i just felt USA simply got outplayed by a team whom seemed to simply WANT IT more. and it is NOT the HC fault if a defender cant make a 10 yard pass up the field.
but yesterday?.........im thinking same thing.... what was Johnson doing on the bench? and Gonzalez was really sucking wind the last 20 minutes, see him bent over in the penalty area trying to catch his wind WHILE honduras had the ball? Arena might be a good tactician leading up to a match, but in-game adjustments really ....................
I STILL think Klinnsmann had the right ideas to move soccer forward in the USA, he just didnt have the right personnel to do it with. so I cant really blame him for ALL their problems.
