Ray Rice is suspended indefinitely for hitting his fiancee.
Greg Hardy is still active and he committed domestic abuse. Ray McDonald is still active and he committed domestic abuse. Adrian Peterson was suspended by his team for whipping his child.
The only difference between the four cases is Rice's is on video. Should that matter? The other three cases may have been worse than Rice's.
The NFL has to dish out the same punishment to all of them. no matter if there is a video or not.
1. Reinstate Rice immediately. 2. Suspend all of them indefinitely. 3. Suspend all of them for a certain amount of time (one game/numerous games) and then reinstate them.
And one other thing. I doubt this is the last time we hear about a player (NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc) hitting his wife or child.

What I also do not understand is how rice is suspended indefinitely. Didn't godell just recently change the rule that first offense is 6 games? So why the disconnect???

Cano - you are correct about the video issue. I am also extending your point about the NfL and can of worms. A rule is a rule. Is it 6 games for first offense or is it up to league discrsession? The rice video is disgusting but it is his first offense....

I hate to say this, but to be honest, I don't even care anymore. That's honestly how I feel. These leagues care very little about their integrity and I'm suppose to give a damn?!
The reality is that these millionaire owners and millionaire athletes play by a different set of rules. No rules.

Those idiots deserve whatever punishment handed to them but the joke is on the League. In Rice's case, there is police report detailing what had happened and I doubt Rice lied to the commissioner during their meeting. Yet the League acts surprised when the video surfaced???

But Rice did it before rule was 6 games. Why isn't his suspension still 2 games?

It's almost impossible to police this without pissing someone off.
Let the law deal with it and adjust suspensions accordingly.
And this is exactly how this (these) situations have went off the rails.
All the NFL had to do was say we let the legal system play out with Rice and suspended him according to the rules. After the release of the video, we agree that the rules needed to be changed.
Being a lawyer, I can't believe Goodell wasn't smart enough to take this approach. They shouldn't even care about the video, why request it? Put it on the legal system. Now that they may have gotten caught lying about the video, they've opened themselves up to incredible scrutiny. If they've lied about having the video for months, then Goodell needs to resign or be removed.

why does the nfl have to blindly do all the same thing for everyone in such a ignorant broad strokes fashion?

Rice and the Union were going to follow up on the 1 year suspension just because even if this were to result in 6games the NFL was acting like the release of the elevator video was a 2nd offense and hence a 1 year ban.
I know the NFL is in trouble when they take counsel from NOW and the woman in charge of NOW states that men need to be reprogrammed and the Football Establishment (Pop Warner-NFL)needs female owners and coaches to combat this problem.

Video makes all the difference. Ray Rice can't say it is "his word against hers" like McDonlad is doing. There are some crazy women that might make something up so that the NFL guy can;t play.
