The way I look at it, I'm literally fighting for my life on a cellular level. Hence the better I eat, the more chance I have. So I went to Rockin on the River last night in Cuyahoga Falls, jammed out to a superb Bob Seger tribute band, ate some greasy food, and had a couple beers. Gonna cut that out now... thinking about going vegetarian. Whatever I decide to do, my diet, for the foreseeable future, is 95-99% greens.
I'm in pain a lot. It's not horrible pain... my left arm/shoulder is usually the problem. It's more psychological than anything. It's that pain that isn't all that bad, but it's a constant reminder...
"Mike... I'm still here. Something isn't right with your body, and I won't let you forget for more than an hour or so." I've lost about 20 pounds (weight loss is a side effect) and people always mention it without knowing. I tell them I've been running a lot.
Sometimes I worry, but the hilarious thing is that it really changes very little. I could have easily died in my 20's with the stupid things I did, and I could still get hit by a bus tomorrow. There's only a chance this thing could alter my life. If I ever get to the point where I need my wife to take care of me, I'll say my goodbyes and swallow enough pain killers to do the job. Problem solved. And I've already lived a pretty good 45 years. With any luck I'll get another 20-30 more.
The thing I need to fix is me not caring about anything any more. I had a friend getting on me about not going out with him. I told him I might not be up to it. So he continues to argue... I finally had enough and I told him what my doctor said. Nothing else matters any more. I realize I have to keep living life like a normal person, but I can't seem to do that.
How do you relate to a friend that had a bad day at work? I just found out I have a chronic, progressive cancer that, in all likelihood, will end my life (though I could still live a normal life span). I'm new at this so any suggestions would be appreciated.
Gotta head to a cookout. This weather is gonna turn to snow in just a few months.
Peace!
hope that you can beat everything steelcash, has anyone told you about the ketogenic diet? basically it's a no carb/low carbohydrate diet where you don't eat much of any sugars or carbs. If i am not mistaken cancer needs to live from feeding off sugars in the body, what has your diet been like throughout your life? Does cancer run in the family?
i've heard that the ketogenic diet can work against cancer even though it's mainly used to help prevent seizures. Last summer i tried out the ketogenic diet, then cheated too much. Finally last november i said that i was not going to ever have a cheat day because once i do, i won't be able to stop eating all the sugars.
I can't believe it's been almost 9 months on the ketogenic diet and i feel really good. I haven't even had the chance to work out much this year and i still feel really healthy and strong. Part of the reason why i wanted to do this diet is because cancer runs in my family so i wanted to be proactive on trying to let it not happen to me.
The other good thing about this diet is that your body no longer gets fooled into thinking that you are hungry. I remember i used to drink a lot of beer and alcohol and then be able to eat a whole pizza because the alcohol somehow made me more hungry. Nowadays i can have 3 beers of michelob ultra at 2.6 carbs per bottle and feel like i just had a meal. I would say i eat less than 10 grams of carbs everyday but if i have some beers it can get me in the 20 range. Nevertheless still a good number while my body is burning ketones.
So you are going to be having a lot of greens and vegetables? juicing vegatables maybe? i would definitely look into doing this and research because a lot of people don't realize that vegetables have a lot of carbohydrates that add up especially if you are juicing. For me, if i am going to have carbs, i will save it for when i eat vegetables and greens. i have tried juicing before but i realized that my body didn't respond well at the same time, the ketogenic diet might not be for everyone, just thought i would ask.
