Violent crime is at an all time low OVERALL. These public shootings/killings seem to be increasing.
But think about it. We've outlawed illegal drugs....we've spent BILLIONS on keeping drugs out of the US. It has done NOTHING.
What makes you think tougher laws to get guns is going to make a dent in all this?
And re. the guy who sliced 23 people. So maybe there was luck involved. If he had a gun, maybe he only shoots one person (who lives) and then all the others run because they hear the noise.
You just never know. And like I said, what if 1/2 the people who can't get a hold of a gun decide to use a bomb instead? Couldn't there actually be more carnage?
You can never know EXACTLY what the outcome is going to be when you take certain measures.
I still remember the day the Drug Czar was appointed by Reagan. 32 years later, we haven't even made a dent.
Not really disagreeing---But when you say it hasn't made a dent and it has done nothing. It can argued that a whole heap of folks are locked up that would potentially be out dealing, etc. So, you could argue that it could be way worse if all of them were out and invovled. Not saying I disagree, just saying maybe it could be done more effectively.

For example, some kid in Pittsburgh went on a knifing spree in his highschool recently. He sliced 23 people. None died...I wonder how many would have died if he used a gun..You can't say "oh well, they are gonna find a way to kill people, so lets make it easy to get a gun."
Since my last post of gun violence happening everyday, there have been 2 headline shootings. 1 in LV, 1 in Oregon. This chit will never end until something is done
People just think because they are a responsible gun owner, that the laws should be geared towards them. NOOOO the laws should be geared with keeping people safe and keeping firearms out of peoples hands.
OK......let's hear your idea(s) for gun control. How do we get rid of them, & how do we keep criminals or psychos from getting them?

It's true more are locked up, but there were others to take their place. Bottom line is, it's no more difficult to find illicit drugs today than it was years and years ago. I don't even use drugs and I would bet you a dime I could have pretty much anything I wanted within 24 hours.
So availability hasn't really changed much IMO. Any decrease in drugs can be more linked to the "just say no" campaigns and the like.
Think about it....when't the last time someone said to you, "geez, I actually had to quit using drugs because the supply was so scarce...I just couldn't get my hands on the stuff."

Point was not that there were others to take their place---point was if the ones locked up were out they would also be involved and, therefore, even more guys into it.
Is the point to make it more difficult to get the illicit drugs? Is that the answer you think? Kinda surprised it take you 24 hours! Haha!

What happens if an attack occurs, say at Walmert. Just like last week. And a good samaratan opens fire at the attackers with his legally owned gun, misses and accidently kills a shopper.
Is he to be charged with murder? Or do you let his "accident" slide cause his intentions were noble?
This is an important determination because if he will be charged with murder, as accidental as it was, you can bet that very few people will start blasting away.

Either way its a goddam mess.
On what planet exactly do you think a US court would convict a good samaritan of murder when trying to save countless peoples lives? Now we are just bringing up extremely rare hypotheticals to try and turn the argument in odd directions.
The bottom line is this...without open gun rights, the country is in a worse off position. The same reason people carry guns is the same reason people get locked up in jail....to deter criminals from commiting crimes. Could you imagine the prevalence of home invasions if black market customers knew the average citizen was not carrying a handgun? storefront armed robbery? and so on and so forth.
Most of the time in politics there is no right or wrong answer for taking a position one way or the other on a topic. This is not one of those times. Shootings and crimes are going to happen and make you doubt gun laws but citizens need to be able to protect themselves. There is no ifs ands or buts about it.

Actually if you do some research, as opposed to going by your feelings, you will learn that public massacres, workplace shootings, and school shootings are all going down decade over decade for the last 100 years.
What is not going down statistically is the rate of media exposure to such events.
But those kinds of facts are inconvenient to those that would rather nobody have the right to guns. So it is not discussed.

True--same with a lot of things. Like shark attacks, etc. With 24 hour cable news and internet we just hear about everything that happens. And we hear it repeatedly.
