Read this article today on CNN. I know that Charities only give pennies on the dollar to the actual crusade, because of operating expenses, but this report is very disturbing. You want to be rich? Make your friends rich too? Be the Founder and CEO of a Charity and pay yourself millions. Hire your friends and pay them millions too. In the end, only 3 cents on every dollar donated gets to the actual victims.

Not all, but unfortunately most ruin it for the ones trying to do good.
If I have money to give, I prefer to make a big impact on a small organization than a small impact on a big organization.
If you go to your local humane society, or church, or meals on wheels - most are underpaid and needing of resources. Of course - the best way to give is to give time and effort rather than money.
Support your local animal shelter. I am on twitter.

we don't hide the fact that all funds donated to the Church of ClubDirt go directly to its founder and CEO, and perhaps indirectly to 5dimes, the Pink Pony and similar organizations.

The Red Cross is the biggest thieving charity there is. Their kunt CEO makes over $500,000 a year and they have so many layers of management making six figure salaries that they have to hustle billions in donations just to pay their bloated salaries.
Go to any Red Cross center and look at the cars the employees drive. When they travel, they fly first or business class and only stay at upscale hotels. They also get enough meal money per day that would last most people a week.
Do not give one cent to the Red Cross.

I guess I am just shocked and speechless that there are no legal regulatory processes in place to police these thieves. I mean, it's criminal, is it not? These fukkers should be doing jail time.

I am a member and former President of one of those small organizations locally where I live (https://www.active20-30.com/) that is dedicated to help low-income kids in need. I want to tell Van and people like him thanks. The small organizations like mine, at least on the local level (and perhaps on the national level, not really sure to be honest) have ZERO paid employees and extremely low overhead costs.
Thanks Van for this mindset, it makes a huge difference at a local level

Van is 100% correct. The title of this thread should have read, "Some Charities are Scams". The local level is most definitely the place to donate if you want to help make a difference.
Didn't mean to insult the good-doers like yourself kaponofor.

I love the clerks at Walmart and other stores that ask you dor donations. I tell them no every time and don't have a problem with it. I rarely go to Walmart, but the last time I was there they asked for donations to a children's hospital I believe. I never understood the concept of one company collecting donations for another... the reason is "easy money".
Here's the thing... people feel obligated because "you're an insensitive heartless bastard to say no to a charity such as that". And there's other families right there in line with you hearing you say no! So now you have to give. They prey on this people. They use pressure and guilt to get donations. And why does a hospital need extra funding anyways? They have more money than banks do.
I wonder how much Wal-Mart keeps. I was going to ask the clerk, but I figured she would have no idea, and I didn't want to put her on the spot.
These companies are fücking shameful and there are people going to Hell in the future. God speed to those that really are trying to make a difference.

Haha... I click on the link above and the article is about a children's charity. They use children to rob money from people. These people are going straight to Hell I guarantee it.

The American Cancer Society is one of the worst. There are so many people out there using cancer and cancer victims to make money so that they can go on cruises to the Caribbean. Cancer isn't a disease, it's a business.

I completely agree.
The circle K in my area pulls the same sh*t at all their stores. The one in my area there's this old broad that tries to make you feel guilty for not dropping the change of your purchase and knowing this place is a scam pisses me off more. I'm not completely sure of the percentages that towards this or that, but when I see the board of directors of this place approving a salary for over 300k for the main guy you're not getting any change from me. I would rather it go give it to the bum to get a beer if my kids don't clean me out of all my change in the car first. It's just horrid a local charity that cares sooooo much about helping people with disabilities find jobs in the workplace should not be paying someone 300k a year to organize it and he's been there for at least 10 years.
I'm sure some of the people in Vegas know who opportunity village is and they're just plain scum. They always have a Christmas theme little carnival that charge ridiculous prices to get it and then ridiculous prices to ride any of the rides. I told her I will guy you one more chance to not beg for my money or I will just use my Amex and you pay the 3 percent for them instead of me paying cash and giving me my money without a guilt trip. Needless to say I'm now using my Amex for everything. Only stopping in for a quick soda the Amex will be used. Screw those people. If I get asked again I'm going to call the district manager and ask what portions he is getting out of it. One of the few things I got pissed off about to where I will work to get the place out in the media with this nonsense.
I volunteer with a few churches and that's where I'm stopping it.

Further to this there is a huge incentive for places like Walmart to collect the donations ----> HUGE tax deduction as THEY get credit for the Charitable Donation....not us !!

Instead of sending money overseas to waste on useless wars, our tax dollars are MORE THAN ENOUGH to help those in need.
And it sickens me that every time there is a disaster, we are inundated with commercials begging for donations.
As soon as someone asks you for a donation and says the money is going to "charity", hide your wallet, because it likely means the money is going to some rich con man.
