#1 Posted: 11/2/2012 4:12:49 PM To all Covers users,
As we mentioned in the past, a big part of our ability to operate, update and moderate this forum at Covers.com comes from the relationship with our advertisers. To continue to provide you with the best forum experience through support from our advertisers, we are going to be enforcing our community guidelines in all areas of content and images.
With many users still not adhering to the guidelines surrounding nude and inappropriate images in customized user avatars, we are forced to enact a stricter policy and temporarily disable all custom avatars. We say temporary as many of you who were following the guidelines will be able to gain your avatar back through our Avatar Approval Process which we will be enabling in the “edit profile” section of your spaces page as soon as possible. Until we have that approval process complete or if you don’t feel like going through the process, we will continue to offer the option of choosing from our existing avatar gallery which we will be updating frequently moving forward. Changes to custom avatars will take place Monday, November 5th.
Covers would simply not exist without our advertisers so we will adhere to the standards they put in place. We do apologize for the inconvenience but want to ensure you that your experience on our site is our top priority.
Don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Advertisers will have nobody to advertise too if you guys keep turning this site into communist covers.

I'm finding that harder and hard to believe.

#8 Posted: 11/3/2012 9:50:36 PM First they tell us we can't post direct links to other sites and what do they do? start posting ad's here in the forums. If you come here to get away from election campaign ad's they hit you with other types, you can't escape a sales pitch!!!
Now they want to ban avatars that people are using here? I thought since you have to be 18 or older to join this website you would have some leeway to choose a SIMPLE picture.
If they remove my avatar then they can also remove my account as well.

#12 Posted: 11/5/2012 6:11:40 PM This is devastating to the user experience. Why are you punishing the entire class for a few bad apples? Here's a thought - ban members that didn't listen the first time they were told. Problem solved. Why wasn't this done instead of punishing everyone? |

#15 Posted: 11/6/2012 10:36:06 AM Really lame. And like a user above said, it's very hard to discern the users now.
Looking forward to this curfew ending.

#20 Posted: 11/7/2012 11:26:48 PM They handled this all behind backwards. Should have gotten the approval process completed first and then worked from there. And writing a little applet to approve avatars should take one day to write and one day to test max, period. What kind of ship are they running here? I think we all know...

#21 Posted: 11/8/2012 3:25:50 PM I think the covers management team should carefully consider their options ... cost/benefit analysis ... or just hire an experienced head honcho that can make some sound business decisions.
The advertisers are paying you X amount of dollars based on the X amount of people that view your site daily/weekly. Think about that for a second. Of course you need advertising dollars to run this site, that's a no freaking brainer but advertising dollars come running to you AFTER you've established a set number of daily users/readers. That can take months and even years, depending on the content and other circumstances in your business. But make no mistake, you're not in a business with high barriers to entry. Anybody with some time, dedication, skill and a little money can open up a competing website. I'm getting off topic, my point is you're getting advertising dollars because of your loyal users/readers not the other way around. We didn't come to covers because of the parameters set by your advertisers, we came here because of your original product, not the stupid commercialized BS. So keep this up, let your advertising dollars dictate your business and slowly but surely, your users and readers will leave your behind and go to a competitor with less restrictions and competitive content ... how much revenue will you generate with a 10% ... or 20% decline in daily readers/users? What if this became a reality? And then became a trend? Can you recover? The short history in your line of business says no. Maybe you guys reconsider your approach ... you're not the only website going thru this problem. Having to censor your forums because of your advertisers is another way of saying SURRENDER. With your readers and users, you have a fighting chance, without us ... you have friggin NOTHING and your advertisers will abandon you like a sinking ship ... |

#25 Posted: 11/9/2012 8:10:52 PM True without your advertisers there would be no covers however upset members enough and there will be no members to advertise to. The avitars are harmless they help people associate other members. This site is for 18 and older and for people who gamble on sports to give each other members their oponion on certain games or topics. Look at the look of the forums their boring all what is does is add some fun. Your advertisers should realize who they are targeting. Its a fine line that you are walking I would think you would have been smarter than this. |
