#1 Posted: 10/13/2012 12:30:56 PM Looking to get another dog, what's a good breed, gents? Looked at this site for breed selections, pretty accurate I would say:

#5 Posted: 10/13/2012 12:37:26 PM It really comes down to how large of a dog that you want. Obviously the larger the dog the more expensive that it will be to keep it. Then you factor in if your home is large enough for a dog, or if you have small children, etc....

#10 Posted: 10/13/2012 1:53:08 PM You gotta be more specific there guy, Do you have a family? Do you have children? If not, the best breed for me when I was single was the Chinese Chow. Loyal as hell, Beautiful yet deadly to any stranger who may break in your home, ONE PERSON DOGS not fit for children or if you have a family, I had my baby chow from the time she was 6 weeks old until she passed away 16 years later, Loved her with all my heart, I still miss her to this day and its been 12 years since shes been gone.
If you have a family like i have now, a small breed is the way to go.

My brother has had 2. They are completely fearless and absolutely loyal. You can have them out for a walk and they will get in the face of a dog 5-10 times their weight. In my experience, they will give you a growl if you bother them while eating or gnawing on a bone, but they are more bark than bit unless they feel truly threatened. Bundles of energy for sure.

#21 Posted: 10/17/2012 3:21:14 PM Female Lab. Look into the breeder. I could always let her out anytime of day and she would take care of biz and never leave the property. We even taught her not to crap in the yard and always go into the woods in the back. again, look into the breeder and find people with dogs from the parents. gl |

#22 Posted: 10/17/2012 4:55:20 PM Stick with a Terrier breed, I've had lots of dogs over the years, but a rat terrier named Baby was the best animal, dog, companion, etc. a man could ask for. |

#23 Posted: 10/17/2012 8:12:38 PM Mixed breeds have always been great dogs to own.
From my experience, there generally healthier animals and although not a rule],have been known to outlive there pure bred counterparts.
Its also always good to checkout your local animal shelters. There are exceptional dogs there just waiting to be your best friend. |
