Since when is it ok to attack someone after an accident? I don't really see how anyone could side with the father in this. I can see maybe punching someone once out of anger, but this wasn't the case.
As the officer tried to help, her 26-year-old dad, Christopher Middleton, came out of a nearby restaurant.
Officials said he was visibly angry and shouting. After the officer
identified himself as a cop, Middleton punched him in the face and
continued to pummel him after he fell to the ground.
Passley allegedly joined in by kicking the officer.

#6 Posted: 8/14/2012 11:26:55 PM The cop shot the man in the groin, so it is hard to say if he was trying to kill him or just protect himself while he was being beaten by 2 men.
I've seen many car accidents in my life where people got hurt and have yet to see anyone beating anyone else because of it.
They also arrested the 18 year old that was involved in the beating.
What I want to know is what was a 4 year old girl doing out on the streets at 10:30 at night?

#7 Posted: 8/14/2012 11:29:16 PM Did the father have a weapon? No.
Did he show his badge? We don't know.
Was he off duty? Yes. (required to carry however).
Did he have mic access for backup? No.
Was his life threatened? Reads that way.
1st glance a veteran of 7+ years handles that without the use of a lethal shot.

#8 Posted: 8/14/2012 11:35:09 PM Regardless if the guy was a cop or not, what was he supposed to do? Let himself possibly get beat to death?
It wasn't like the girl was killed to cause such vicious anger, in fact the stories all read that she and her cousin walked out in front of him and he took injury himself by ditching the bike to avoid serious injury to anyone else and then took a beating by 2 men.
The girl was treated at and released from the hospital.

#11 Posted: 8/14/2012 11:41:56 PM Story reads as if the police officer clearly had an unfortunate accident. Every attempt was made by him to bring in all units for the child. He was attacked by the father with intent to kill.
Shoot at the extremeties would be a good plan however we don't know how violent the man was. Cop may have not have had any chance. Sad story.
An accident went ape shot. |

#12 Posted: 8/15/2012 1:04:40 AM What an idiot parent. Instead of looking for a medical doctor he tries to aggravate the situation. Completely his fault. A toddler running the streets at 10:30 PM. Hopefully the girl is okay. |

#13 Posted: 8/15/2012 1:43:37 AM The off duty policeman broke his Leg and his shoulder when he laid down his bike to avoid hitting the 4 year old girl who ran out into the street. And then he catches a beating from 2 thugs?

#17 Posted: 8/15/2012 12:34:45 PM I know this little stretch of area/street very well, and I will tell you that young children darting into the street is a common occurence, no matter what time of day. Keep in mind the speed limit on this stretch is 40 MPH, and is heavily trafficked daily. I back this cop 100% here. He tried to avoid an accident, suffered injuries because of it, and then has these 2 lowlife deadbeats start pummeling him.

#18 Posted: 8/15/2012 12:41:38 PM The kid should have been immediately taken in for care and then grounded for 2 weeks for running out into the street.
If it happened as the official said it did, I can't blame the cop. The first worry this guy had was to beat the pulp out of the guy who injured himself in possibly saving his girl's life rather than to attend to her injuries? Like HL said, everybody loses. But it could have easily been prevented if that guy had even an ounce of self control. |

#21 Posted: 8/15/2012 1:53:46 PM Weird story. Who would react like this? Any normal person would rush to help their hurt child - not start a fight. Just weird. |

It seems to me that these 2 people used this entire incident as an excuse to inflict a beating on a man who was not only injured, but who also informed them that he was a police officer.
Normal people that are associated with the human race of 2012 don't behave like this.

#24 Posted: 8/15/2012 8:09:54 PM Be intresting to see the autop toxicology on deceased dad and alive cousin. -200 they were both high an drunk as hell.
Props to the off duty gentlemen. His #1 priority was the well being of that child. 911 would have delivered all units and air lift if he wasn't getting the crap beaten out of him. |

#25 Posted: 8/15/2012 8:24:20 PM The officer was being pummelled by two black men in their mid twenties. This is self-defense after a terrible accident. |
