#28 Posted: 5/9/2012 7:27:40 PM it also feels good to drive a nice car. the comfort, extra torque, smoothness on the road, reduced cabin noise, plush seats. It all feels good. It's like eating a nice aged prime rib or kobe steak, some can argue beef is just beef. Car is just a car.. etc |

#29 Posted: 5/9/2012 9:02:14 PM everybody is over the 'new car' excitement after 2-3 weeks. Then the payment contract or departure from capital settles in.
Unless it's a classic muscle car or classic 4x4 of course, but that's an entirely different discussion. Just me. |

Some people feel a need to advertise themselves with the car that they drive because they have small tiny person, no muscle and wear cologne. |

German engineering is the best and no other country can touch them in that department when it comes to cars. I am pretty sure Germans, Daimler, are the ones who invented the internal combustion engine.
Unless you go to the exotic cars then Italian is hte way to go. Only problem is Italians are only concerned with speed and looks so you lose the comfort factor and gadgets inside.
Asian cars are the most bang for your buck and some of hte more reliable cars. American cars are mostly crap unless you want to buy SUV or Trucks. Sweedish cars will last you the longest and will run forever but it will cost you to repair. German cars are also expensive to repair and unless you bring it to a mechanic who actually knows what the hell he is doing you will continue to have problems. German cars are not built for the home mechanic, they do not design the placement of parts to be easy to access and repair like American cars which were originally made so you could repair it home for low cost.
For performance, comfort, ride, gadgets... German engineering is the way to go. You will end up paying more in the longrun for repairs and maintenance.

I have owned 3 VWs (GTI, Jetta 1992)
VW was good when they were built in Germany
1986 Jetta Carat was a good car ( built in Germany)
I own a 2000 A4 2.8 ( most reliable engine I've owned)
1.8T and 2.7 T have issues
1.8 T Oil Sludge ( this engine requires synthetic Oil only)
2.7 T ( you better pray and hope turbos don't fail)
Get this: the entire 2.7T engine must be removed to replace the turbos
That's why Audi went to Supercharged Engine ( new ones) even though it shows 3.0T. Audi was getting sued.
Anyone buying German car needs either an extended warranty from the dealership or an affordable mechanic ( who knows German products) if you buy from used car dealers.

Yeah, poor as hell.
Travel around the world often with your Mercedes money instead.
I'll be at the Eurocup in June taking in another culture while you're jerking off on a money pit car. |

#44 Posted: 5/11/2012 7:20:31 PM The thing about used german cars is that the people that leased them didn't give a darn and drove the garbage out of them, there's a reason they offer free oil changes on new leases. |

Also had audi a4 2.8. Great engine as you say. Never had any problems engine wise.
Control arms, rear wheel bearing fail too soon and sway bar links. Secondary air injection also usually fails (really doesn't cause any issues just puts the check engine light on and will need to change to pass emissions). with proper regular maintenance that engine will last a long time and still be strong |
