darn

This is the absolute worst.  Just got back from having my round/good time just ruined by the dbag who joined us at the turn.

Playing at some random far off course half hour outside of DC, basically in the boonies, and was empty as hell today when we got there (1pm).  Barely even saw any other groups out there, let alone had to wait.

As we're waiting at the turn for my buddy to grab some beers, random solo guy comes up to us and asks to play with us.....Keep in mind not like the Marshall told him to, the course was wide open.  He could have waited 10 minutes for us to tee off and easily had a round to himself.

But you can't really be an fool and just say no, so of course he played with us.  So you have 3 friends hanging out.....having some beers, smoking a little weed, talking about work and life and girls and stuff......and now we have some 50 year old square behind lame pencil pusher surburban Dad in our group, trying to make lame jokes and trying to join our conversation.....SO ANNOYING!

I'm not the best golfer in the world and if I'm not playing with people I feel comfortable with, I start getting flustered and shaking garbage.  I also just hate the fact that if you have less than a foursome you are always at risk of being stuck with some random solo guy.  Personally I am of the opinion if that you can't even round up ONE friend to go shoot 18 with, just hit on the range, or go play some friggin raquetball or something....

Again if course is completely full and Marshall has to cram groups together it's one thing......but the lame fools with no friends who ASK to join your group, b/c they don't think its a big deal, and they'd rather golf with a random 3some than by themselves???? That's friggin lame.  darn people who do that.  No-one wants to golf with ANYONE but their friends.  You people ruin peoples rounds and make me not want to golf.

Ok rant over.

Why not tell him to tee off before your threesome?

Because by the time we had made the turn, taken a piss, grabbed some beers etc we had already let the only group within striking distance pass us and we weren't really feeling like waiting....

Also one of my friends immediately just said "Sure no problem" when he asked to join us, so at that point it just would have been weird and awkward to try and re-arrange something else.

I guess we could have easily done that, but basically by the time he asked my friend just said yes right away, and that was that.

Also this rant isn't isolated to today.  This garbage happens ALL the time.  This rant is not so much directed at dude I played with today......but at ANYONE who golfs solo, to let those people know how much that tactic pisses off people who are their to hang out with their friends, not some random lame schlub.

Next time your friend says "sure, no problem", you TELL HIM "great! YOU CAN RIDE WITH HIM"

The way to play as a solo in an unknown group is exactly that, solo (and make it verbally clear). Don't disturb their outing in any way unless you're invited into conversation.

Compliment good shots and move on.

Lol no, worst part was we had 2 carts for our 3some and this dude was a walker......so obviously our rate of play slows down as a group prob 33% or so, not only because we add another, but he's a slow behind walker who takes 3x as long to navigate a hole as a cart user

Hell yeah, I know what you mean. I don’t golf much but you can apply your story to a lot of situations.

Basketball, pool, bars or any places when you want to hang out with people you know and some random person tries to join in that nobody even knows. It creates awkward tension.

Now if it’s some random smokin hot chick I’m all for it. I don’t mind having random chicks try to tag along.

I've seen a lot of murder mysteries where the murder weapon was a golf club. Pretty secluded out there too.

garbage, It's not nice being a person but jesus christ. If its gonna entirely ruin your day with your boys and then youre still gonna be steaming about it when you get home enough to type a 2000character rant, next time politely tell him no can do.

Tell him you guys are playing for 1000 a hole and cant be bothered.
Tell him you guys are in a bit of a rush and waiting for a 4th will make you guys later for some party.

That sounded like a horrible time Nice guy though.

That is a shitty situation. The best way to handle it is to begin to make that person feel uncomfortable. Ask him a few lewd questions, like if his wife still blows him or give him anal. Ask about his daughters boyfriends, try to mentally derail the guy and he'll either open up more and might become semi-cool/interesting or shut down completely and just drift away from the group and into the woods. It'll work.

ya gave the guy some company which he clearly needed despite his clueless golf etiquette approach. Feel good about that.

One day you're gonna wake up and ask yourself...."Was making 10,000 plus posts in about a year on a gambling forum, the majority of which are either whiny posts about your addictions or simply hating on others, a good use of my time?"

And the answer my man..........will be No.  No it was not a good use of your time.   Good luck getting sober there Pal, not everyone can handle their alcohol and weed without turning into a complete crying box about it, so best of luck with that.

it's your bad. and if you feel that strongly about singles joining your group, pay for the fourth spot like others do.

or if you want to do the box thing, bring an extra bag to put on the cart.

how can anything ruin a day of choke n putt....

Right so it's something to be made fun of when I post on this site about something common that happens on the golf course that a lot of gamblers can relate too (as evidenced by several non-dickhead posts made before yours)

But coming onto the exact same forum and posting about your addictions and being depressed and your epic struggle with your problems......that's to be admired and revered?

I was expressing the fact that as a golfer it sucks having randoms trying to join you.  Possibly went a bit long winded with it, but so be it.

You come on here for sympathy/moral support in something that is basically a life or death struggle (the general discussion section of a gambling board) and expect people to help/advise/ support you......yet when I post something like this you come in here to bash on me for some odd reason.

But hey as you said in your detox 15 page thread you're very depressed.  So that sucks, and I can see why you're miserable and have to hate on others to feel better about yourself.

Personally other than having my golf round ruined today I'm happy as a Clam with no mental health problems to speak of!  Enjoy being fucked up in the head!
