Elon Musk is a pretty amazing cat (one of the inventors of Paypal as well), saw a TV special on him a few years ago. If I were in the markets, this would be a stock I would consider, right around 30 bones last I checked. Veeery high ceiling on this particular industry.
The NUMMI plant is also an interesting story too. In the mid-80s it turned into a GM/Toyota partnership. Toyota wanted the skilled American labor force to work on their cars (and obviously easier access to the huge American market), and GM wanted to learn about one-piece flow, JIT, TPS, vertical integration, kaizen leadership principles, and several other aspects of lean manufacturing. It didn't work out for GM because they were way too fucking undisciplined as an organization, but the plant itself improved greatly as a result of Toyota's operations. Anyone who got a business degree with a focus in supply and logistics as I did, learned more about this stuff then they could ever have wanted to.
I have been eying a Tesla for about 3 years now, but I don't have the cash at this point. For those of you who can...do it.
