they're decision to "not react to public outcry" (their words according to a source) by taking the statue down, and "hoping people will forget in a few weeks or a month" and things will calm down, is ABSOLUTELY WRONG

outside of Penn State and Happy Valley, the decision to keep the statue is EXTREMELY UNPOPULAR

think about, they fired him last fall (justifiably so) when the whole scandal broke, because of several reasons.

now you have the Freeh report which scoured 3.5 million emails, and it clearly shows that JoePa dropped his iron fist and stopped the penn st brass from going to the cops so that he could SAVE HIS BRAND and the PENN STATE brand,

he chose his betterment over the safety of chidren

THE STATUE MUST COME DOWN, AND SOONER THAN YOU THINK, IT WILL

i am shocked to hear that such a high percentage of penn state folks are in favor of KEEPING that statue,

this is simply unbelievable to me,

the evidence is OVERWHELMING that JoePa protected Sandusky because he feared the negativity that would fall down on his program,

JoePa chose FOOTBALL AND FAME over CHILDREN being protected by a sexual predator,

what is the fukking problem here to understand?!?!?!?!?!

Of course, it's because it's not their kids, or friend's kids that were affected by the sickening acts.

You know what Muammar Qaddafi (Or Kadafi), Hosni Mubarak and Joe Paterno has in common?  These three people were ruling for way too long.  Mubarak with his ruling in Egypt, Kadafi with Libya and Paterno with Penn State.  Paterno has so much power in Penn State that it seems like he ruled the school.  Power and high command corrupts people and eventually they think that they are above the law or above any rules or regulations.  Also, they know the in(s)/out(s), who they can control and who they can bribe.  Ultimately, they are bound to make mistakes and it would cost them.  I am not saying that Joe Paterno shouldn't be coaching for 50+ years.  I just say that he should be force to coach elsewhere so that he can be in a new environment with a new system.  Histories and records will always follow him no matter where he goes so he shouldn't be worried.  Turnovers in college football players are high so going to another team doesn't make much of a difference.

"thisguyiswise" - the public outcry is BECAUSE they are keeping the statue, which is the WRONG thing to do.

statues of football coaches on a campus should be reserved for those who never failed as miserably as Joe did in this situation.

he chose to protect HIS name and the PENN STATE BRAND instead of reporting a child molestor

the STATUE NEEDS TO COME DOWN, and the public outcry is and will be because the statue STILL STANDS

if i was in Happy Valley, i would go and PISS ON THAT STATUE right now

Tear it down , remove his name from everything and stop talking about it. And get rid of his family too, because I'm sure they knew it all as well . You know he discussed all of it w his wife and family, and if they did know, they're just as guilty for not doing anything about it

Penn state needs some alumni working on Madison Avenue in NYC to step up and do some pro bono public relations work for them...Penn state has committed almost every public relations faux pas that an institution can commit...

They should already be planning a "new Penn state football" campaign that conveys transparency, accountability, and truly ethical behavior...

longhorn,

its all being done, will continue to be done and has been being done for months by the new coaching staff.

the coaches caravan BOB took to different states was a huge step.  It will take a while, but it will be done over time and the greatness of the university will outshine the darkness of a few men.

I have full belief in BOB as the guy to do it in more ways than just winning football games.
