#77 Posted: 12/27/2011 8:10:32 PM damn, that was a tough one to take, soooooooooo many turnovers for west mich, pretty uncharacteristic. that ends the perfect run at 7.
now at 7-1-1 on bowl games.
Go wolfpack!

#83 Posted: 12/28/2011 4:07:17 PM what's up gentlemen? let's get this thing going....young guy coaching in the bowl game for toledo, a few other assistants missing....the players like cambell and that's cute and all but I think this will be a close game and you need good, experienced coaching in close games. I like AF sideline a bit more. so a little bit of coaching drama during the break and their coach who they've played for all year won't be there, there is def opportunity for AF to take advantage. Have they really been preparing as hard as needed to try to slow down AF triple option???????? there's no way they were helped by the current coaching situation. toledo defense looked a bit fragile during the season, they were involved in some gashings along the way...now who are they going to be led by during this bowl game, who are they going to look at on the sideline?? their 32 yr old head coach who they all love, will be up in the box....weird.....AF defense will certainly give up their share to toledo, we all know they can score...I just think the winners of bowl games have edges in experience, coaching and QB....I think AF has 2 of 3 and the QB i could make an argument, especially for their system...I think they score points along the way b/c i don't feel like Toledo has the make-up on defense to stop AF and figure out how to defend their option all game......

#91 Posted: 12/28/2011 7:17:34 PM i'm down to gamble a bit, haha. let me know!
nice to be up 1-0 already on the night, hope AF can pull it out somehow.
On to tonights game. I think these teams are pretty even for the most part, statistically, records, etc. and a few differences that i think favor cal in this situation: texas is very young and although a lot of their struggles were injury related, they still did not develop any kind of chemistry/flow offensively and lost 3 of their last 4, while Cal won 3 of their last 4 and the loss was a 3 point loss to Stanford. Tedford would also looooooooooove to stick it to Texas and Mack Brown; In 2004, Texas and California found themselves in similar positions. Each was 10-1 with a shot at a potential program-building BCS game. Texas coach Mack Brown lobbied for the Longhorns to get the spot, while California coach Jeff Tedford largely stayed silent. The Longhorns hopped the Golden Bears in the BCS standings, a move that seemed to affect both programs. The Longhorns went on to win the 2005 Rose Bowl, which propelled Texas to its BCS national championship season the following year. Cal went to the 2004 Holiday Bowl, dropped to eight wins in 2005 and went to that year's Las Vegas Bowl. The Bears never went to a BCS game in the following years, while the Longhorns went to BCS bowls two more times. tedford wants nothing more than to beat texas and I think they have enough edge on offense to be worth taking the points with them. not that texas will not be focused, but they have not been on the same page offensively and cal has improved quite a bit on that side of the ball. Tedford is 5-2 in bowl games, he knows how to get it done in a bowl game. this isn't exactly the bowl game texas is used to playing in, i question their focus overall in comparison to cal, a more experienced team full of upper classmen. Texas will be ready to announce themselves officially back on the scene next year, but I think Cal gets them tonight.
Cal +3.5 (-130) |
