Guys as we all know Pete Rose will not be reinstated by MLB. No one at covers has been a bigger proponent of reinstating Pete Rose as me and I love Pete Rose. But he lost me Monday. The report came out that Rose said in the meeting with Rob Manfred that he doesn't bet on baseball and 20 minutes later admitted to betting on baseballPete Rose can't be betting on baseball and I just can't fathom how stupid he is
But here's something else I can't fathom. We all knew Manfred would give Rose his day in court but here's the $64,000 question... Why give him his day? No matter what Rose would say or do in his life Manfred wasn't going to reinstate him. Hell Pete could cure Aids and cancer and not get reinstated
Why does MLB feel the need to be Lucy holding the football as Pete Rose who's Charilie Brown goes to kick it? Why couldn't Manfred say"Pete as long as i'm the commissioner you'll never be reinstated" What would Pete do? Sue MLB? And why is it okay for MLB to profit off of Rose?
MLB and the band of merry minions that is the BBWAA and folks like Peter Gammons and keyelement who baseball is holy and they're the gatekeepers get to say Pete Rose doesn't belong. Which is fine. But if he's banned if he's a disgrace to the game why was he on the field at the All Century Team in 1999? Or this past year in Cincy. My point is if Pete's banned.... THEN BAN HIM!. No ceremonies,No reinstatement
Basically MLB says Pete Rose is a disgrace.... Except when he can make us some money because people love Pete Rose. And this line of thinking is why MLB is in deep trouble as a sport. I don't get MLB getting off dangling a carrot in front of Rose. Don't leave the door open a crack shut the door. You can't take away his right to make a living as an analyst on Fox but shut the door
MLB also doesn't understand they've taken both sides of the coin especially concerning daily fantasy which is gambling. If train69 and I bet $50 on the Cardinals-Cubs game or $50 on who makes the best fantasy lineup with a $50,000 salary cap its gamblingManfred has also talked about sports betting being legal in all 50 states{Which it should be but that's another thread for another day}but I don't think he and MLB understand that they're on both sides of the fence
Look if I was commissioner I wouldn't reinstate Rose after he admits he still bets on baseball. But when i said he should be reinstated i would've done it with conditions. Those being he can't be a manager or coach,Can't be a GM or an owner and i said that before all of this came out
I'm not changing your opinion on Rose and you won't change mine. But i'm pissed at Rose, the empty suit commissioner and MLB for this dog and pony show. Baseball was my 1st love but the sport is losing me guys. Pete doesn't deserve to be reinstated but he doesn't deserve what MLB has done to him which is profiting off of him and dangling the carrot that we may reinstate you when you know you aren't going to
