Better late then never I guess but...it's kinda late considering they had Price and lost him.
They sent 2B/SS Javier Betancourt to the Brewers. He's 21 who hit .263/.304/.336 with 3 homers and 48 RBI in 122 games at High-A this season and doesn't project to be a power hitter or a stolen base guy either. He ranked #11th on the Tigers' prospect list so it's a good deal for them, imo.

It's an OK deal, but not a season changer. The Tigers really need to get to work. The winter meetings will be important for this club. Even if they don't make any deals there, they should get a feel for who and what is available and move aggressively soon after.
Now and then even a BLIND squirrel can find an acorn

I think it's a great deal given who they gave up but it all depends on which K-Rod we see. My guess will be the usual one with a solid first half and bad second half.
But I agree that they need more. Their offense is fine but their bullpen needs a lot more than just a closer since nobody they have hoped to step up has at this point. They have Sanchez, Verlander, Norris, Boyd and maybe Greene in their rotation next season? Everyone is a question mark in that bunch. It'll be interesting to see what they do but I think they have either too many pitching holes to fill or maybe they'll get lucky and everyone will pan out. You just never know with that.

I like the move. Avila wants to sign two starting pitchers. I heard they may be interested in Gallardo. I would still love to see O'Day on the team. Who knows maybe this trade will save them some money and help them sign someone like Zimmerman. If I was the Tigers, I would pick up the phone and see if the Yankees would deal Miller for Sanchez straight up.

I think Verlander is back already, Sanchez should rebound and the rest are a crap shoot, but even if K-R has a good season the bridge looks like it needs a life preserver. Maybe two starters and two middle relievers would help, but without them they are shafted versus the KC bullpen and Cleveland starters, unless of course, the Indians are crazy enough to bust up that rotation in favor of offense/defense. It is also very hard to gauge whether or not the Twins are for real or did they just do it with smoke and mirrors? Same for the White Sox. The only one in the division I trustis the Royals, and that is mostly out of respect for Dayton Moore and Ned Yost. One thing we should be able to agree on is that the hot stove season is just as crazy as always!

I agree that the Royals are the only ones who don't have questions. That Tigers bullpen has too many pitchers who have the tenancy to miss the strike zone and that doesn't work as a reliever no matter how many guys you CAN strike out.
I think the Twins deserve the benefit of the doubt considering they still have Buxton to work on, a full season of Sano and Berrios and Meyer still to come for that rotation. They have a bright future but still need help, imo.
I still think the Indians are a year out but we saw with the Royals that every year we thought that they were ready, we kept waiting.
The Tigers have to win NOW because their offense isn't a bunch of young guys so they need to sure up that rotation and bullpen immediately because their window is closing relatively fast.
And that trade of Miller for Sanchez MAY work but from the Yankees' standpoint, I just can't see them accepting it. I think they rather have a younger pitcher under cheap control. I heard they wanted a Kimbrel type of deal for him and if that's the case, I don't think he'd be movable in a 1-1 deal.
