Deep down I feel like I should know better with this pick…but I just can't help myself
Braves vs. Mets
Harang vs. Niese
Over/Under is set at 7
Braves were shut out yesterday 1-0 vs the Phils and only had 4 hits and the Mets had the day off but won in Arizona Wednesday 5-2. Time for the Hotlanta bats to bring some warmth to freezing NY.
Harang has outperformed in his first 3 starts with the Braves and his stat line looks fantastic. However, I've seen this guy pitch before and the "old" Harang memories linger in the back of my mind. He has already played the Mets this year in Atlanta and lost 4-0 and now the Mets will get another shot at him. Having seen him only 10 days ago, I think they will remember what he brought to the table. Historical numbers show that Harang really doesn't pitch well against the Mets for whatever reason. In 11 games started, he owns a 5.20 ERA a 1.73 WHIP and a .305 batting average against. That's flat out UGLY, and against the Mets of all teams! I simply think Harang is due for a let down and with a Mets team that had the day off yesterday, I can see them tagging Harang for a few.
For the Mets, we have Niese on the mound. And having gone to MSG last night to scream my heart out for my beloved Rangers who beat the Flyers, Mr. Niese was at the game sipping on a couple adult beverages! Thought it was funny Matt Harvey was also there but they didn't sit together haha. Anyway, looking at last years numbers when Niese faced the Braves, they collectively hit 20/61 off him during the season, good for a .328 avg! Niese has started 15 career games vs. the Braves posting a 3.62 ERA and 1.48 WHIP. The WHIP here concerns me, having walked 38 batters in 87 innings vs. Atlanta. Through his first 2 games, lefties are 0/12 on him but righties are batting .324. The big lefty on the Braves is Freddie and he was 3/8 against him last year so I'm not concerned with the 0/12 line and like my chances that some righty bats will tag him.
With Harang's historically poor statistics against the Mets and Niese having a few too many bud lights yesterday, I like my shot at the over here. Betting the over on the Mets surely isn't for the faint of heart and I don't blame you if you don't take it, but it looks good to me. Keep an eye out for David Wright, he owns Harang 11/24 for a .458avg.
The Pick: Over 7 (-105)
Good Luck as always to all, hopefully we get our 5th in a row.

i'm riding it out…i'd like to see some bats wake up but so far it's ugly.
That bad call at first base on d'Arnaud and Harang's first at bat which Murphy robbed is the difference right now. That could have resulted in at least 2-3+ more runs though
