- The Senators defeated the Penguins, 2-1, in overtime on Saturday night, winning their third straight game, and improving to 5-2 on the road during the 2017 playoffs. - This is the eighth time that Ottawa has won the first game of a best-of-seven matchup since the lockout. Including last round against the Rangers, the Sens have taken six of the last seven series when entering Game 2 up 1-0 (only loss came to the Penguins in 2010).
- After taking all three games at PPG Paints Arena vs. the Blue Jackets in the First Round, the Penguins are just 1-3 in their last four home tilts, potting two or fewer goals in each of the setbacks. - Evgeni Malkin potted the Pens' lone goal in Game 1, giving him an NHL-high 19 points (6g, 13a) during the 2017 playoffs. Malkin has at least one point in each of Pittsburgh's seven home games during this year's postseason (four goals and seven assists).
