They have been outplayed it seems like in ever game so far in the series.Other than the first game when the Penguins looked like they had a let down after playing Washington, this series has been all Pittsburgh.Tonight if ever,Tampa needs to come out with everything they have, lose tonight and they can kiss this series good bye.. In my own opinion, I believe Pittsburgh will win the series, and I have a series bet on them as well but as far as tonight...I am going to back up the home team and see if their pride, desperation , home advantage, and the Hockey Gods give this team a break, here and there. I am not going crazy on the Lightning tonight but like some of our friends say in here..

If there's one thing I've learned in my meager two years of gambling its that "desperation" doesn't mean s--t when the game starts. Countless times I've played this angle and lost money. Tampa Bay could very well win this game but it will be because they executed better than Pittsburgh, not because they were desperate.

Not worth it to me to make a medium/large play on the Pens, I took the Bolts small as well.
Bishop being out really changes the complexion of this series, if they can steal one tonight and he gets back by at least game 6, thing can get really interesting.

I think you would find that "desperate" teams do very well in sports. This is a proven betting angle in that when an athlete is behind, he is going to be more motivated than the team that is ahead. The team that is ahead just can't help but breathe a little easier and relax just a bit. If you've ever played sports, even pick-up games, you know the feeling from your own experience of being on both sides of this. Let's call in motivation, not desperation. Of course, if you are totally out-manned, and missing your star players, it is really going to take a Rocky-like performance. And you can make the argument that the team that is ahead can play loose and that might give them an advantage to counter the highly-motivated team.
I'm not making any predictions on this game, because Tampa is a bit short-handed, so they are lacking in the talent level vs Pitt right now.

Fair enough - to each their own. I get the idea but desperation isn't something that can be quantified. I tend to consider tangible things when betting not hypothetical terms like desperation. If a team plays better than their opponent in regards to possession, zone entires, goaltending, etc they usually win.

Desperation! Motivation 4-3! Whew. Had to hang on there at the end.
The thing to remember is that as a bettor, you have to figure that the line is pretty sharp to begin with and all the tangible things are baked in. We have to find the intangibles that others are not giving enough weight.
