So now we see it really wasn't Lou stepping aside, as more the Devils told him he would not be GM anymore and Ray Shero was going to take over.
Leafs...well this is about 10 years too late. So now you will have Lou trying to put a defensive slowdown footprint on the team while Babcock looked to be in charge of pretty much everything and is not as defensive minded as Lou is.
Granted the Leafs needed a strong willed person to guide the out of control ship, but I really thought that would be a Babcock thing. Don't forget that Shanahan and Lou have a history. For those that don't know, Lou drafted Shanahan as the 2nd pick in '87 and Shanahan returned to the Devils his last year of the 2008-09 season. Shanahan and Lou have always gotten along well on and off the ice.
It really will be interesting to see how the relationship is between Lou and Babs.

can NOT hurt the Maple Leafs to have Lou as GM BUT, like you said, look for boring "grind" hockey.
btw, UNREAL futures on the Leafs right now @ Westgate Superbook. now 90-1 for Eastern Conference after opening @ 45-1 (HIGHEST odds on their board) and 200-1 for Stanley Cup after a 100-1 open tied for highest with Coyotes

Lou won't be as successful without Brodeur... That's just my opinion anyway.... A couple of years of Lou will guaranteeToronto nothing but continued hardship and strife...

I'm definitely not a Leafs fan but I have to give them props for the changes they are making. Overdue or not, they appear to be doing everything they can to turn it around there. Still more to come I'm sure.
