#5 Posted: 6/14/2012 12:23:06 AM Hope theKings don't use Bernier to get him.. I think Kings can get more from Chicago or Edmonton... I would rather see Kings keep Bernier until half way through next season and then se what they need.... |

i agree, and will keep him for less than the market dictates, lou is one of the shrewdest gms in the league, and if anybody can balance the books to keep him , it would be him! |

#11 Posted: 6/14/2012 8:11:12 AM He didn't balance the books to good when he highly over paid for that cream puff Kovalchuk. That signing is what got Parise wanting to get out of town in the first place and is easily one of the worst hockey contract signings of all time.
The Devils just caught the perfect playoff storm these playoffs. They barely scraped by a Florida team that outplayed them for the majority of the series, got lucky catching an emotionally drained and disinterested Flyers team, got the Rangers after they were 100% spent form two previous 7 game wars and then could not beat the Kings until the Kings took their foot off the pedal after they got up 3-0. A lot of the hockey playoffs is just timing and luck of the draw.
I hope for his sake he gets the hell out of there. He deserves much better than to be standing way at that back of the bank line behind Ilya Kovalchuk.

This wasn't Lou's call. Owners are the one that pulled the trigger on this deal.

#13 Posted: 6/14/2012 10:38:04 AM Yes I know the Russian owner of the basketball Nets at the time (Mikhail Prokhorov) was the one who forced the deal, or at least that's how I heard the story. I meant to aim the comment at "them" as opposed to "him". He does very well for himself but at the same time every GM takes the fall for the owners decisions.
Owners are behind tons of moves or lack thereof on many or all teams. A good example of that would be Holmgren on my Flyers taking heat for trading Richards and Carter to sign Bryzgalov, but in reality Snider was 100% the director of all that. It's the same situation as when he went out and made his management get Lindros years ago for 15 million along with Forsberg, Ricci, Simon, Huffman and Hextall. Holmgren actually did an incredible job getting back what he did in a situation that he was forced into.
Other GM's like Holmgren take the heat for moves forced by ownership as they choose to be employed by the organization, so good old Lou should be no different.
We will see how his magic works with Parise. I will be impressed if he can resign him. Their "opportunistic" run to the finals may help him.

I think it's MN or Detroit. Lou Nanne is as plugged in as anyone in hockey....and he knows JP Parise very well. He has talked with Wild owner Craig Leipold and Craig told him that they will absolutely be able to offer the most lucrative contract offer that he will receive....and they are prepared to do so. So if he signs elsewhere, it will be for less money.
And yeah, MN has struggled, but this group of centers looks pretty good:
Parise Koivu Granlund Brodziak/Cullen
Brodziak played on the 2nd line last year because of necessity.
They also signed Charlie Coyle, B. Bullmer, Jonas Brodin, J. Larsson, and J. Gustafsson. Zucker is on board and Zack Phillips not too far behind. Matt Hackett has a chance to be very good.
If only they hadn't traded Nick Leddy.
MN has a chance to be good for a while starting in another year or two. All depends on how patient Parise wants to be since he had a serious taste this year.
Rumor has it they also expect to go after R. Suter hard. |

#15 Posted: 6/14/2012 10:51:07 AM However, the Pens and Wings are expected to focus in on upgrading their blueline this off-season, while the Rangers might be too much of a gamble for Parise._________________
Actually, he flat out said in an interview yesterday that he would never play for the Rangers.
And I would say Suter likely ends up in Detroit. |

Pretty Funny, They asked him if he would ever play with the rangers and he quickly said "NO" and nothing else. Pretty much telling the Rangers don't even waste your time and breath in effort.

Just the way I see it. They barely scraped by the weakest team in the NHL playoff tournament in Florida.

I'll tell you this....... He and any greedy professional athlete would change their tune if the right amt. of money is put on the table... "Don't think any athlete out there gives a garbage about you, me or any fan.... IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY AND IF THE RANGERS OFFERED MR. PARISI 60 MIL.... BELIEVE ME, HE WOULD '' LOVE '' THE RANGERS WAYYYYYY MORE THAN ANY OTHER....................... |

BELIEVE ME, HE WOULD '' LOVE '' THE RANGERS WAYYYYYY MORE THAN ANY OTHER....................... While I do agree with you in general, there are however exceptions to the rule. There was a certain hockey player named Raymond Bourque that could have gotten A LOT more money elsewhere much earlier, but he chose to be loyal to the Bruins. Yes they are few and far between but his father J.P was a pretty stand up type guy so ya never know his son might mean what he says.
If he really was just interested in the money then he would not even say what he said because that is just turning off one of the teams capable of paying him whatever he wants. Not too mention being a star player going to New York means more money on the side.
Maybe you're right though. We'll find out if they do make him a big offer.

I thought MN had a chance. Not so much based on some stuff I've heard. More hearsay than anything else. Lots of speculation for sure and I'm guessing it will continue until free agency starts. |

Very true, but I thought about it some more and he also may have been playing to the media (I'm guessing it would have stirred up a hornet's nest if he said he would consider the Rangers). But he sure did answer quickly.
Hate the waiting. Let's just get it started already. |
