I like to think that I am in pretty good shape, and stick to a healthy diet. My biggest downfall is drinking. The alcohol consumption, itself, as well as decisions I make while drinking; food choice, cigarettes, weed... So I want to stop drinking for a month, and see just how much weight I'll really drop. I'm 6'0, and weighed in this morning at 193. I actually think I'll get down to 180-185. I'll try and make weekly updates. I'll weigh daily, but think daily updates is a little much as many days there will be no change. I do think, though, that this thread as something to physically track my progress will help me stay focused, and give me clear results to look back on.

So here's to not drinking

the only positive to my first major knee surgery was that i was on antibiotics for a month after and the doctor said i couldn't drink any alcohol during that time (i bought it).  anyway, it was then that i learned that i was not an alcoholic. 

so, it can be done. 

actually, i don't drink much anymore. 

are you going to make any other changes or keep everything else exactly the same?

Everything else the same. I think my diet is the fast track to effortless weight loss, but the drinking impedes it every time, so we shall see.

I used to be 250. Ran every morning 5am, and sometimes after work as well. got down to 170. In that time, I went a while without drinking, so I know it can be done. I never tracked if the rate at which I lost was much more when I wasn't drinking, though. I intentionally waited until after the super bowl, and will squeeze it in just before it gets nice again, so this should make it easier. Hopefully by then ill be able to just "have a few," that's where Ive failed to have discipline.

Ill also save money, and have some more free time to read and do other things I usually pass on to drink

Its funny though... when I lost all my weight I was on a decent diet, but would eat many things that I wouldn't eat now, sober at least. The first thing I ate after working out was a big behind bagel. I also used to eat guy everyday, and chips and salsa when I got home. Used to have mini rice cakes, the quaker flavored kind, and the like 2 minute prepackaged uncle bens rice. All of those things I wouldnt eat now, except the salsa. I did, however, put out much more energy. I still do run 2-3 times a week, and play bball 2-3 times a week, but not with the consistency I used to run. Interested to see the differences....

i used to be on something like that many years ago.  but i was young and exercising like crazy so i really didn't know the difference.  once you get a little older and the metabolism slows down and you don't have time to play 4 on 4 for 2 hours 5 days a week, you notice what those carbs will do.

anyway, let us know how it works out.

damn.  I am the same, except about 6'3 210 or so.  Make it to the gym 3 times a week and eat decently in the week.  The binge drinking on the weekends (we're talking like 30 beers in the span of fri-saturday) definitely does damage.

Don't see myself quitting drinking for a month though.

190 this morning. Thats usually where I'm at by weeks end, but now is where it gets derailed. Going to the bar after work with some guys I work with. Only going because the chick bartender gave me her number last time, and asked me to come in today and hang out later.... Will be drinking water

I think its crazy that I'm actually considered overweight. I am very active and eat pretty well, at least I think. I've got a few areas that could tighten up, and that's why I'm doing this, see if that's the fat that will burn now.

Have read around, and there are varying opinions on ideal weight for my age and height. Ive seem from 176-188. I think 180-185, as I said, is where I can get too, and that's where I want to be. I got as low as 170 before, and was told by everyone that I looked sickly....

Actualy had some patron silver straight, no carbs.

dude i am in the same boat with you...6'2" and 215. seems my whole life is social drinking with friends and corporate outings and that destroys my good eating  and adds a garbage load of empty calories...

i am going to join you on this one month off alcohol....except i will start sunday ...there is some last minute fun to be had...i will pop in and see how you are doing and good luck

AHD, I've actually gotten a friend of mine to commit as well. I didn't even ask him, he just said he would do it as well.

But ya, seems there is always an excuse to drink

Good job Squint

6 and 189 is not awefull.

If ask me.......... drinking is a part of life.  Especially in certain occupations.

Just get that diet right tho.  The exercise part is easy but the "basic" diet is tough for many people.

Fried is 5' 11" and down to 170 from 195 few years ago...... drink like a fish but TIGHTENED up the nutrition.

5'10 183...in the process of changing my diet quite a bit, lost 5 lbs in about 10 days. My only cardio is at work (I am a waiter, so I do a ton of walking and many times fast paced walking).

I am a waiter at a casual steakhouse...(a chain) but prices are high enough where I earn decent coin.

YES, tons of horny chicks in the restaurant business I am learning, its AWESOME.  The worst part is the total garbage heads that leave you like 3 bucks on 50, it wouldn't matter if they had the best service of their lives or the worst. But those that leave 40 on 100 make up for it.
