#1 Posted: 3/16/2011 7:28:35 PM No way in hell for me. Can't concentrate on the kinds of movements I do.. too.dangerous.
Besides that I like to have a brief chat with somebody nearby in between sets sometimes. Guess I'm wierd, I like to talk a little and say hello.
The women are hopeless here in California. They'll never take 'em off. "How are you today" is out of the question. |

#7 Posted: 3/24/2011 8:18:28 AM Im not fan of talking at gym that will kill your workout...It reason why they call it a gym...Its not happy hour or social time nor is it coffe shop. It reason im thinking of quitting where I go and buy my own equipment and lift at home. Misfits right why would you talk at gym? For me its get in get done get out. I dont want to be there any longer then I have to. I dont go to socialize I go to workout. Besides Im not social butterfly anymore Ive gotscrewed over by being to friendly with people at gym. Gym/talking/socializing=drinking/driving they dont mix. |

#8 Posted: 3/24/2011 8:20:42 AM Also reason why people who wear headphone dont want to be bothered when they lift and Im one of them...Nothing worse then having great workout with music playing in ipod then some dumbass comes up and starts yacking your ear off. All gyms should place rule where talking is not allowed. |

If I politely asked you to move a your 45 pound straight curl bar off of the squat rack you would fuckin do it immediatly, and if you had head phones on I'd do it right in front of you while you were listening to rap gangster punk music on your Ipod.
Sure as hell you'd say "sorry man." |

I agree I cannot wear head phones either way too dangerous. You have to hear whats going on around you.

#13 Posted: 3/29/2011 8:06:25 PM I do a lot of cardio at the gym and i couldn't imagine running on a treadmill for a few miles just listening to my strides. Also, while doing cardio, talking isn't the best thing to do.
As far as lifting and garbage goes, I guess most people are pro ipod because they like to listen to a song that pumps them up. I think the best way to go is to have a good lifting buddy there to motivate you though..
I feel you though on the women situation. It'd be nice if women made it a LITTLE bit easier to strike up conversation. |

#15 Posted: 3/31/2011 12:09:20 AM I just walk on the treadmill, sometimes I push the 'incline' button up a little.
I've been trying to lose over 50+ beer an burger fat pounds for a long time. Everybody gets really excited about the headphones in ears. I like to talk and just walk as hard as I can.
My goodness. |

Ok rook hero.
1 minutes tops on conversation. Maybe you'll learn something - ya never know who's training next to you and what you might learn. |

Obviously you have issues..........nothing wrong with saying hello, especially when you see the same people a lot,i.e. people with the same workout schedule.
.....& rickey is right........I've gotten some great tips by taking a few mins. to ask questions. Most people are more than willing to share info if they can see you're serious about it.

#22 Posted: 4/9/2011 7:09:25 PM I don't like to have social hour at the gym either, but I definitely make chit chat with those around me, especially if we see each other all the time. And never has it gotten to a point where I sit there for 30 min to an hour talking. When I'm ready to stop talking, I cut it off and continue with my reps... most people usually get it and shut up at that point. Then carry on when we're resting. I can't imagine trying to lift with cords hanging from my friggin ears and dangling around. It would annoy the crap out of me. During cardio though, that's a different story.

#23 Posted: 5/7/2011 4:37:14 AM I can't workout without my house music blasting on my headphones.
One thing is for sure, don't listen to comedy stands up while working out. I know firsthand.

#24 Posted: 5/7/2011 8:10:46 PM Training at an intense level both on weights and cardio and there's no possible way you can concentrate pushing or pulling big weight with music blasting in your ear....no way.
To each is own though respectfully. Some people like to get on those silly Eliptical wheels and talk on the phone, listen to music and read the newspaper.
