#1 Posted: 9/27/2010 10:52:53 PM Ok heres the situation Im 21 5'7 198 and I feel like my weight is in trouble, my pants are having trouble fitting so Im serious going into hardcore training for 30 days in hopes of results. Its the unknown strangers on covers that Im hoping will push me through.
My nutrition is my biggest concern and after consulting with many trainers today this is what I found
Breakfast- hot oatmeal, Egg Whites, Shredded Wheat cereal, wheat toast
No carbs after 1-2 pm but my question is what exactly has carbs , rice, potatoes thats all i can think. I was told no fruit after that time becausr those also have carbs.
Dinner no later than 7 greens only as a vegetable with protein,
and if hungry late at night a scoop of whey protein with water
does that sound about right or is that something people do??
Anyways 30 days following that, NO ALCHOAL whatsoever. Plenty of lifting, hard interval running, basketball steam room, weigh in 2x a week lets so what we can do in 30 days I should shed lbs right? |

#2 Posted: 9/29/2010 2:47:14 PM Go get the book Body for Life, it will tell you how and what to eat. It takes a little bit to get use to it, but when you do, it works great. Make sure you get plenty of cardio in and drink as much water as you can everyday. (2 gallons) |

#3 Posted: 10/4/2010 2:13:00 PM Sounds a little more strict that it needs to be.
1) limit complex carbs (pasta, rice, white bread, etc.) 2) limit/eliminate calories from drinks (beer, soda, etc.) and drink lots of water 3) eat low-fat protein (chicken breast, fish, lean meat, etc.) 4) watch your portions! eat small meals. and eat only when you are actually hungry. 5) eat lots of fresh fruits and veggies. 6) exercise daily.
Just follows basics and don't worry too much about exactly what time you eat certain foods. If you can, also just learn calories and count calories. Based on your size, maybe shoot for 1,500-1,800 cals/day.

#4 Posted: 10/4/2010 6:31:12 PM i agree with depeche. don't kill yourself dieting just shoot for a pound or two a week and it will become part of your life instead of being something you dread.
i tried unsuccessfully to lose weight several times but then tried to be more reasonable about it. Now am in the habit of exercising 6 times per week.
- Small breakfast of almonds and/or berries - Lunch is usually a sandwich or some sort of chicken, trying to just make healthier choices and eating a smaller portion instead of trying to eat like a rabbit. (i.e. 6 inch sub at subway instead of a footlong, and removing fattining add on sauces/mayo or a burrito bowl from chipotle instead of a burrito) - Dinner usually a sandwich with potato salad or cottege cheese May have a snack of pita & hummus or some carrots Limiting drinking to 2x per week, choosing a lighter beer with less calories Also, eliminating all other drinks that contain calories. I only drink water or iced tea.
Used to get really hungry because my stomach was used to larger portions and eating more. Now I can eat between 1,500-1,800 calories per day and have no problem doing it. Add daily exercise to that and you will lose weight no problem. |

#5 Posted: 10/5/2010 2:17:13 AM The hardest part of getting fit and losing weight is the first 3 weeks. From first hand experience and also talking to personal trainers, the first 3 weeks is by far the toughest. The reasons are twofold.
Firstly, most people don't record any noticeable weight loss in that period as it takes your body time to adjust to a change in diet and exercise.
Secondly, once you have committed to something for 3 weeks, it becomes habit and a part of " rote " learning i.e it becomes automatic.
Get over that 3 week hump and it will come naturally and you will be amazed at how automatic and natural looking after yourself, what you eat and your exercise becomes. |

#6 Posted: 10/7/2010 6:42:59 AM Ok about 11 days in. I was 198 when I started I weighed in Monday down to 197, I know not a major different but im eating extremly healthy like you wouldnt believe.
Im running interval cardio I was doing 15-20 mins at 1st Im now doing 30 mins burning about 450 calories. I do intervals 1 min hard running 1 min slow jog/walk
Everyone is saying they notice my stomachs getting smaller and I feel like it is as well, but again I also heard it takes a week or two before you start significantly seeing change like stated above |

#9 Posted: 10/18/2010 6:28:45 PM It sounds like you are on a good track. It results aren't going to show immediatly, which can be the frustrating part about making drastic lifestyle changes. By running intervals and eating better your metabolism is going to ramp up more and more. If you lost a lb a week until christmas you'd be really getting somewhere.
Im no expert, but when I got out of my wheelchair after a long surgery recovery, i noticed the big weight loss happening once i had the strength to lift weights again. It seems counter intuitive but weight lifting spikes your metabolism. My cycling coach (national team) always said a healthy breakfast and weight lifting session throws a log on your day long calorie burning fire. aka metabolism up for the day.
Plus all the added bonuses to working out: better sleep, better sex drive, more energy...

#11 Posted: 11/4/2010 1:54:18 AM UPDATE
Iam 193.5-194
Im kind of dissapointed with that weight because Im killing myself with cardio and weights. Im literally in pain when I leave everyday.
My Diet is unbelievable all my friends are cut up animals and have been guiding me with the perfect diet.
Iam taking whey protein and i feel maybe I have lost more weight but the whey protein is keeping me from losing more.
Im switching it up this week and doing circuit training and instead of 30 min interval running im doing
15-20 interval running then a quick mile on eliptical and 10 mins on stairmaster.
Then I legit go play 5-6 pick up games of basketball. Daily for 2 monthsand only 5 lbs if that. Everyone says they see a difference i see my gut hanging over my shorts when i sit down. Im seriously considerding some sort of diet pills i need to cheat |

#14 Posted: 11/15/2010 1:07:04 AM 187.5 I found out the technique, im not eating lunch and I take an Isopure Whey Protein Shake instead. I legit have been losing a pound a day from it and cut my cardio down significantly also.
Is that dangerous to be losing a pound a day like that |

#22 Posted: 1/17/2011 10:24:36 PM Yes, Honestly at first I was BUSTING my behind. cardio interval running for 30 mins a day eating great playing basketball circuit weight lifting, and after a few weeks I lost like 2-3 lbs I was disgusting I was killing myself.
All of my friends are like the definition of perfect bodies, not fat just muscle and cut up.
They all told me to get ISOPURE PROTIEN. I got it and made a shake for my lunch every single day then would go to gym come home and eat dinner.
Once I started taking it I was losing a lb a day for a about a week, then every other week id lose a few lbs.
Im not at a point where im a 21 year old college kid all my friends came home from school. I got stuck drinking and eating fast food everyday almost, but because my diet was so healthy before none of this even affected me. I hurt my back last week playing basketball and havent been to the gym in a week, went today I was 176.5 the lowest Ive been since, with everything I ate and drank this week I was shocked.
Now I have to go hard untill March to get perfect for Spring Break
Its all about eating, if you life try circuit lifting, switching and getting a sweat.
I dont even do cardio anymore and im still losing.
