#13 Posted: 5/12/2011 11:43:21 AM I don't like to listen to very much rap, but it's role as social protest is vital - although it's not exactly Woody Guthrie.

#15 Posted: 5/12/2011 12:33:12 PM It's Common we're talking about here, not freaking 2Pac or Eazy-E guys. The manufactured outrage over this is ridiculous.

manufactured outrage? Wtf are you talking about?
You write a song that centers on the celebration of the life of cop killer, like he did in his song for Assata Shakur, then you are friggin loser who has no business anywhere near the White. House. Its that friggin simple.
Just calling a spade a spade. I know thats hard to do for most in here.

I think we're just gonna disagree on this one, TILTO. Common is not a "gangster" rapper or anything close to the sort. People are cherry picking lyrics out of his songs, which are largely peaceful in nature and about passive and intellectual resistance as opposed to violent resistance.

#18 Posted: 5/12/2011 1:13:03 PM And FWIW, they completely ignored him for the most part during the event, except for one small mention of his name as an introduction. Which leads me to believe that even Barry knows how friggin dumb an idea it was to invite him. And my money is that he told Moochelle just what to do. |

At least he is for the second amendment. (hope he has a permit for the gun that he has told everyone that he carries) even though Chicago (where he is from, and lives) does not issue said permits. The threats to law enforcement being renowned as "art" is asinine, but it is good to see that the left is relaxing their tolerance towards violent rhetoric. Now we can just straight up say that we want to kill police officers. DHS is only looking for VETS and Right Wing lone wolves, so it is open season on threatening authority figures if you do not fit that description.
I really don't care that he went to the White house though.
I think that he definitely is representative of a segment of society that does not trust police or the Govt., and why would they? There have been COINTELPRO operations to silence and eliminate their leaders, and Eugenic schemes to annihilate them as a race.
He represents a segment of society that FOX news will never understand and MSNBC only pretends to understand (and exploit for ratings). Speaking of which, has anyone ever seen Ed Schultz talk to Al Sharpton? It is embarrassing. Schultz uses improper grammar on purpose and uses contractions in the wrong space, to appear "down", that to me is racism.
