Patsy Cline, she died in a plane crash in 1963

Whatta voice, and a story with every song.

Diana Ross gets my vote for greatest female singer.

Patsy Cline-what a voice. Even with old recording equipment, her voice still sounds so clear.

Gal bartender loves it when I play 'Sweet Dreams' (also the name of the movie bio), and her music had a big crossover back in the day. She exploded on the country charts, and even non-country people started buying her records, she went high on the pop charts as well.

personal choice...

(1)  Janis Joplin - most soulful lady rocker ever, but what a mess

(2)  Linda Ronstadt - she could belt out a tune, she got The Eagles started (they were her backup band)

Some great ones above. Blues/jazz wise would also have to throw in Billie Holliday, Ella Fitzgerald & maybe the best of the 3, Sara Vaughan -

Toni Braxton - Powerful heart felt voice

Sade - Hypnotic voice

Stevie Nicks - I just like her sound (firery little thing)

Those three just come to mind instantly for me.

Hope Sandoval of Mazzy Star. Hypnotic meloncholy sensualness wrapped up in a wee, tiny package. She gets my vote

Good call          Back in the day I always wanted to pick her up and eat it the way the Greek gods ate grapes
