unless REALLY old....like me....
that would be the great TERRY  KATH.....original guitarist for CHICAGO......when they were a real rock band...
originally CHICAGO TRANSIT AUTHORITY....
he was one of the best /innovative guitarists ever.....and a great singer....died in '78 at the age of 31...hey kids > drugs / alcohol /GUNS .....always a bad idea
HENDRIX himself said KATH was better....
"playfully" pointed a loaded 9 mm to his head thinking it was empty .....whoops !....forgot about the one already in the chamber
this is "Poem 58".....from their 1st album
yes this is actually Chicago.....

Chicago was a really good band until Peter Cetera had them all waving rainbow flags by around 1980..

Not mearly on the same level as the guy from Chicago, but Dan Reed is pretty darn good. Played a Winter Europe Tour with Daniel Lanois (also a fantastic guitarist who produced U2's Unforgettable Fire, Joshua Tree, and Achtung Baby...........(I believe Lanois as a producer gave U2 that extra shove of depth that they needed from "War" to "U.Fire")

Daniel Lanois

Lanois is a very interesting guy, and well worth surfing around his name on the web about him.

I am seeing D.Reed in concert this Summer, and I am praying Lanois will be their. D.L. did the music score for Sling Blade. Too bad the flick was sorta creepy, because it made it difficult a lot to concentrate on listening to the music. That score won a bunch of awards.

Dan Reed is a friend of mine through mutual buds over the years, and I didn't know that Lanois was beside him on guitar in March in London. Got an invite to that show , but couldn't hack the cash at the time.

This Summer, I'm praying Lanois will still be there with him. I might just stay a few weeks and catch some shows. Trains sure do help you cover some ground. It'd be fun as hell........

I gotta check out the guy from Chicago y'all were referring to. I'm not familiar with him. Hate hearing tragic accidents like that.

Got the DVD of Keys To Ascension, and Steve Howe is always really fun to watch play........one of my fav guitarists..........

Yup Gut n Sugar, that word "best" as far as guitarist goes is impossible to use........

As gut explained to me, a lot of variables (paraphrasing)

TTL:  I always liked Chaquico too bro.

He broke his wrist @ 16 and learned to play with the cast on.....and thus, his unique style.

I really do like pre- "peter cetera as the focal point" of the band Chicago.

I think that some of the reunion tours in the early 2000s didn't have Cetera, and were said to be cool and they alledgedly played the old stuff you guys seem to be referring to.

Might have to poke around you tube and look for some of it.

The G3 group (Satriani, Vai, Malmsteem), definitely the best guitarists in the world at this point.
