This Sunday we celebrate what has been referred to as America's favorite unofficial holiday with the playing of Super Bowl LI
The beauty of the two week layoff before the big game is that everyone is so willing to offer up their opinion. The casual fan now has a voice and suddenly has a view of the game that no one else can see.
A couple of things concern me when looking at this game;
* Devonta Freeman picks the time off prior to big game to bring up his contract situation and how he wants Atlanta to compensate him next year. The timing is just wrong. This moment is about the team, not him.
*Kyle Shanahan, the offensive coordinator, has his backpack filled with the game plan inside, taken by a member of the media. With a head coaching job waiting for him after Sunday, how focused is he with the task at hand.
As talented as Atlanta is, they are a young team who doesn't have much experience dealing with the media for two weeks before the game. Living under the bright lights & getting pulled in multiple directions by the media can cause issues.
Football players are creatures of habit. They need structure.
The media circus this week disrupts that structure.
I think New England knows Atlanta is dangerous on offense and will try to combat that by running the ball early
Tough game to call but i'm going to side with a more battle tested squad who won't be mesmerized by the big stage.
I know all about the recent success of the underdogs in recent Super Bowls.
I know New England hasn't won a Super Bowl by more than 4 points during their recent past Bowls (irrelevant stat here)
Please don't tell me how i'm not considering whatever stat that you have that supports your opinion.
I have done my homework and am siding with the Patriots

There is also a chance that none of those things factor into atlanta's performance and that they just play their usual game which is non stop big plays and yardage. I think a huge factor in this game is who gets the ball and who scores first. If atlanta goes up 7-0 in this game new england has to be aggressive and keep pace. They can't screw around running the football and burning the clock if they don't have the lead. They only way that will work is if atlanta is having an off game and can't move the ball on offense. If new england goes up 7-0 atlanta has the same game plan to be aggressive and get touchdowns and not field goals. Either way I have to believe by the second half this game turns into a full blown shootout. Both defenses can be beaten and will be by two outstanding QB's. I can't help it, i'm on the over myself. GL to all.

Well banger i know you're not expecting a low scoring game so you must be thinking something like 30-27 which is very possible. All i know is that taking the under in this game will keep you hanging on the edge of your seat in the 4th quarter...but after all i guess that's what makes gambling fun. We will see!

I commented on the Freeman thing but missed that one. I knew he might be a bit distracted with the new job, but my god! Needless to say, I agree with all your points. And yes, Icing Matty Ice with long sustained drives is the best defense. I mentioned that in another thread and the guy kept asking me to explain to him why the best defense is a good offense

I don't think New England can run the ball, which is a point you brought up in your argument that would have to happen. What running back does New England have? Good point about D. Freeman, but if he plays, then the point is moot. Atlanta has Freeman and Coleman which are two familiar and reliable names as running backs. Then, what can Brady do that Matt Ryan can't do? Is there a pass that Brady can make that Matt Ryan can't make? Matt Ryan has been passing the ball amazingly well, MVP type stuff. And we know that Ryan has a big name receiver that Brady doesn't have, in Julio Jones. I think Atlanta will destroy the Patriots and the world will see Brady dinking and dunking the ball not being able to compete with the huge big pass play ability of Matt Ryan. And what about Gronkowski?

I made my selection based on many factors, many of which are not listed above, as i didn't feel like typing out a long winded post for the sake of posters like yourself who have a hard time paying attention to anything for longer than 30 seconds at a time.
Thank you for your concern but going forward please only stick to threads where the poster makes a pick without giving any logical thoughts.

You clearly are a Falcon backer
I'm not here to change your mind, only to post my selection

The Patriots are 16-0 when (RB) Dion Lewis is active over the past two seasons including playoffs. Good Luck with that theory.

What can Brady do?
He can win a Super Bowl without relying on a big name receiver like Julio Jones. Julio Jones is a failure point, as is Matt Ryan. Patriots have built in redundancy. Matt Ryan goes down and what happens to Atlanta?
Here are the receiving corp Patriots have won THREE SUPER BOWLS with:
Julian Edelman
Rob Gronkowski
Danny Amendola
Brandon LaFell
James Develin
Michael Hoomanawanui
Deion Branch
David Givens
Troy Brown
Daniel Graham
Mike Vrabel
Deion Branch
David Givens
Daniel Graham
Mike Vrabel
Bethel Johnson

Brady is special; he wins with the cards he is dealt, Ryan much like Montana (w/ Jerry Rice) owes a lot of his success to Julio Jones, take away Jones and Ryan is pedestrian.
Ryan years average:
w/o Julio Jones Comp%: 60.1%
w/ Julio Jones Comp%: 66.6% (+10%)
w/o Julio Jones Yards: 3354
w/ Julio Jones Yards: 4607 (+37%)
w/o Julio Jones Y/G: 218
w/ Julio Jones Y/G: 234 (+7%)
Brady careerY/G: 260
w/o Julio Jones TDs: 22
w/ Julio Jones TDs: 29 (+32%)
w/o Julio Jones TD%: 4.5
w/ Julio Jones TD%: 4.9 (+10%)
Brady careerTD%: 5.5
w/o Julio Jones INT%: 2.4
w/ Julio Jones INT%: 2.2
Brady careerINT%: 1.8
2013 Julio only played 5 games, that same season Ryan's TD% dropped to 4% (~20% down from 4.9%) and Ints climbed to 17 (+30% up from 13 avg w/ Jones)
Once Belichick takes Jones out of the equation on Sunday, GG Patriots.

anyone who isnt familiar with or hasnt watched the falcons play will see what happens when you try to key on julio..the rest of the offense simply takes over...they create mismatches...simple as freeman stated "pick your poison"
