#1 Posted: 5/11/2012 4:29:17 PM While I'm playing my Atari I like to get score updates on my landline.I been using 1=800=TELL ME but that is going out of business the 1st of June.
I need a score phone # for a real telephone landline, not for a cell not an app, not a computer program, 800 please. Something I could use on a payphone, remember them?
I've googled about 15#s and all were out of service. Love Covers.com |

#3 Posted: 5/11/2012 4:45:58 PM I remember dialing that number pre-internet.
Every 10 minutes you could get a new update.
You'd have to listen to tout ads before they gave the scores.

College basketball was brutal. Sometimes I'd have to listen to several dozen scores before they'd get to my game, and then chances were that my girl would talk to me while I was listening and make me miss the score.
Then I'd call back and tune out the scores that I'd already heard and sometimes my game would sneak by me before I started to re-focus.

Tell Me..... hahahahaha that brings back memories.
I can remember screaming at my old StarTac cell phone back in the early 2000's.
Tell Me was such crap voice recognition.
I would say "Sports" she would say "Stocks, please say a symbol".
"No....SPORTS"
"Weather, please say a city and state."
"NO YOU STUPID friggin girl SPORTS SPORTS SPORTS!!!!!"
"I'm sorry, I did not get that."
I guess I take BetBud for granted now. My phone gives me live constant updates on my action. Gotta love technology.

#10 Posted: 5/12/2012 2:49:09 AM Wow talk about some old memories coming back to me when I read this thread ! I remember before ESPN 2 (And the constant ticker) when ESPN was the only game in town, and they would only have updates at '28 & '58 Past the hour .Brutal!! I would watch " Headline News" with Lynn Russel because they would have a constant ticker at the bottom flashing the days scores. When a game went final ,The winning teams name & scores would be in yellow ;losing in white. I won and lost many a game watching that scoreboard.

#12 Posted: 5/12/2012 4:53:56 PM You used to have to yell into the phone otherwise it wouldn't pick up what you were saying. Once you were listening to the scores you had to be careful not to breath too hard or it would stop the update and say "I'm sorry, I didn't get that but hey". It was better than nothing but it was hard to gauge how the game was going because they didn't give the exact time that was left in a quarter or a period. |

#14 Posted: 5/12/2012 8:02:21 PM The Toronto Sun used to have a 1-800 phone service. I remember leaving class, to use the pay phone, just to get score updates on early baseball games.
I think they ended that service a decade ago. |
