Failed surprise drug test following last weeks press con.

Makes sense now why he skipped town in dec. for a while just before the Lesnar fight and a pending drug test, to see his sick mother and ob. to take those extra few days to clearup his sys. before taking it in europe and passing it.

Dana must be fuming and it would not surprise me if Dana cut this guy cause his rep. is forever tarnished and his past too.

Well somebody has to fight Dos Santos on May 26th

The logical pick is Cain.

Mir will fight someone else with the winner getting the main event winner later this year.

This is my guess this plays out?

I am not personally unhappy with all this because i was torn in this FORMER matchup.

A great boxer and puncher vs a great all round fighter.

Well if i am right and Cain is Juniors next opp. there is no hesitation who i like there.

Cain is also a great all round fighter without the bulk and mass but has 1 weakness-his noggin and who better to expliot that, AGAIN, is the guy who wins his fights in only ONE WAY, CRUSHING NOGGINS.

A nightmare matchup for Cain.

Cain doesn't deserve auto rematch. He never even defended. I say give it to Mir. After all the yrs he put in he has paid his dues

No shock that Overeem failed a test. That dude clearly has paid for some good supplements. Many former Pride fighters juiced, because they could.  People like Wanderlei, Coleman, and Vitor look deflated compared to when they were in their juicing prime!

I'd love to see some video of Reem's face when they announced the drug test at the presser. He must have known he was done right then. What a retard

Agreed.

I'm not a Mir fan really, but I have no idea how anyone can say Cain deserves the shot next.

In my eyes, give Mir the shot.  Take Cain off the card and match him up with Werdum at 147.  Werdum is scheduled to fight Russow, but Werdum/Cain makes much more sense and is a good solution.

They already had Dunham/Barboza on the prelims of this card that can be moved to the main card.  That fight should of been on the main card anyway.

The reasons i say Cain.

 One loss

He was undefeated before losing to only the TOP HW in the world and as we have seen in the UFC, 6 month later rematches are not impossible.

It is the best matchup that Dana could put on, if Dana and the public are looking for a competitive fight VS a deserving great all round fighter who was all the rage himself, just a very short time ago.

Cain is the concensus #1 contender, now that overeem is out of the picture and was on many if not half the #1 contender HW lists, even before this happened to Overeem.

Everyone knows Dos Santos would BASH Mir into oblivion in round 1, as the i am guessing the -500 to -600 line would suggest, compared to i say Junior -150 over Cain. Styles make fights and Mir has no chance getting Dos Santos down to do the only thing he knows how to win, unless Junior follows him down to finish him, after braining Mir silly and you can be sure thats exactly what Junior will be thinking ( do not pull a nog on the ground VS this stunned dangerous opp. ) and maybe even let Mir standup, only to play some more target practice till the ref. steps in. It will be an embarrassment.

Now i am well aware of what happened on nov.12th, when both guys had health issues and they have not fought anyone since, but if Dana is looking for the best matchup right now, Cain is it, 1st round KO or not last time. After all Cain himself, Dana and all the pundits  said Cain made a mistake not shooting more on Junior and tried to stand with him. We all know Cain will not try that strat. again, which will make for a very interesting fight, if it happens.

Now Mir might be the one who gets the shot as a lot of people on MMA posting boards all over are suggesting, but i think that would be a huge mistake IF IF the public are looking for the best HW fight possible and many if not all will be saying the same thing after an easy and early pummeling ends Mirs night, if he is chosen.

It doesn't matter who would give JDS a harder fight.

It is who you can say deserves it.  Mir has at least been winning.  Cain Cain got the belt and didn't even defend it once.  He was KO'd by JDS in a minute.  How are they going to sell that fight?  "come out everyone and watch Cain get a 2nd crack at it!"

Cain doesn't want that fight right this second.

I'm sick of rematches.

Pretty ironic that you say this when they guy you want in there had his chance and got an early pummeling already.

You point doesn't seem consistent with your argument.

Several years back, Overeem fought in Pride's Middleweight Grand Prix tournament and lost to Liddell. Didn't see him fight for a while, then all of a sudden, he's 265lbs and full of muscle! I knew something was up.

good ponts both Johny and Vanith. I agree that JDS will likely KO Mir quickly, but he seems to be a bad matchup for pretty much everyone right now. The ground game specialists have to find a way to get inside for a TD and will all get caught on way in. The onlt striking specialist that could compete may have been Reem. Then there's Carwin who just cant get KOd and took a beating in the process.

Yes, styles make fights... but for  a title shot you can't worry about that. It is who deserves it, and I don't think Cain deserves it. He beat Brock, who has proven to be not a great fighter. Got Kod so quickly in his first defense. Plus the age factor. Cain will get another chance. Mir is getting old.

I think heavyweight division is stagnant due to the weight range.  No fighter that would weigh 205-225 wants to give up 40 pounds. That's a lot of power to give up. No other weight class enjoys more than a 20 lb range.  I think you would see a lot more movement if it went:

Heavy weight 206-230

Super 231+

Not sure I follow you.  So then that would just create a totally crappy stagnate super heavy division that no one cares about.

There is that much of a gap because if you had just a bunch of fat guys in the top division the division would suck.  JDS, Cain, Roy, Corimer would all just make 231 and balloon back up to 245.  Hell even guys like Mir, Werdum, and others would make the 231 by cutting weight.  You are basically just proposing to combine the 2 divisions together and force all the small 205ers to go to 185.

There is also a bigger gap because these guys are bigger.  THey have more body fat to lose or gain.

I don't like the idea at all.  It would just water it down even more and the super heavy division would almost be unwatchable besides the couple top guys.

The HW division is better than it has ever been.

The fact that its taken THIS long to bust this guy goes to show how much of a FARCE the testing is.  The guys will never get caught when they know when the tests are going to be.  The first time Overroid got randomly tested, he gets popped.  He was to be randomly tested before the Lesnar fight as well, but avoided it b/c his mother was ill in Holland, and he was instead tested there on a scheduled test.  Such a joke.  If the sport wants to be taken seriously you have to randomly test all the guys in MMA and Boxing or else it will remain a total clown show.  So many of these guys are cheating it's not even funny.  Overeem just happened to be obvious b/c he's so massive.

Mir vs jds will happen I'm sure. Unless overeems b sample is clear. So I'm guessing they will convince werdum to not fight in brazil and step up and fight Cain. Unless they bring in Russo to replace someone else in the card.

Picks for UFC on fuel 2

Pickett
Nunes
Diabate
Sakkara for the upset

Absolutely right, their fight wasnt even close.  Maybe if this was Strikeforce.  It will probably be Mir, but Id be just as happy to see Hunt just because styles make fights.  Either way its a HUGE disappointment for what was probably the most anticipated HW matchup in MMA history.

Sounds like Dana isn't splitting up Cain Mir. Werdum? Hendo wants a crack? That would be interestibg

Mir has no chin , I can't see myself laying odds on a guy who can't take any sort of action on his dome(not a happy euphimism)

I dont think Mir really has a chance vs Cain so a fight vs JDS isn't too appealing unless u are just a big Mir fan. Of course he always has that chance of winning by submission, much like Hunt's punchers chance. Just give it to Hunt, he's not not getting any younger and he's paid his dues in the fight game. Let Hendo stick to the MW and LHW divisions for now
