What can we expect for a trifecta or superfecta payout from an online sportsbook (say heritage or 5dimes)?  I'm not a big horse race bettor, but from what I've read I understand this is based on the pool of money bet on these cards at the book?

Is this correct for online books as well?  I know the pool is usually considerable at the track, but I'm unsure what to expect online.

Any one have experience with this from past years?  Wouldn't it tend to be better as there isn't a prime favorite this year?

Sorry if this is a remedial question, but I'm not sure where else to look for this information.

the amount of the exacta trifecta and superfecta is dependent on the odds of the horses in the the finish.  the higher the odds of the horses the more it pays.  your online bet will pay the same as it will at the track.  after the race it will tell you on the tv what the trifecta pays and the book will use the same formula and pay the same as what it does at the track. if this makes sense, sorry i'm hungover so that may have been confusing.

I have thought about this myself - if an online bookmaker is big enough, they can afford to take the risk of large payouts, since if the handle is big enough, the track's 17 to 25% takeout should be sufficient to cover their risk, assuming they pay track prices which they usually do.  I remember last year someone complaining in a thread here that they they won the 72K super on the derby, but their book limited payouts to 35K (I believe it was with betus who discloses this in their rules)

One advantage is the online books are not in the track pool...therefore what you bet online does not impact the odds and you do not have to pay taxes on a tax ticket win (300-1 or higher odds with a payout above $600 is a tax ticket at the track)

Thanks for the quick answers.  I had thought trifecta's were always a pool, but I'm going to go ahead and try to contact the book(s) and see what they say.
