I love it. Just put on my yoga pants and do 14 sets of hip thrusts in reps of 12-18.

5x5 is a basic powerlifting program, best part about it is only 3x a week, here the basic as i was taught:

day 1  Flat Bench. Squat . Dips (wieghted) i add explosive pushups

Day 2  Deads, Dynamic Rows, chins (wighted) Standing push press

Day 3  Flat bench, Squat, Deads, i add pushups and chins

U warm up obviuosly then Do 5 sets of 5 reps until u complete that then next time add 5lbs until u can complete that

ex in my bench i currently completed 200lbs and now im attempting 205 today i did 5 5 4 4 3 i will do this until i can reach 5 5 5 5 5

anybody done anything like this??? it supposed to be for 12 weeks, its used mostly for strength....

Seems like a good routine............ keep it simple...... and has dead lifts in there.

The older I get, the more I realize that don't need to hit each muscle as often as thought I did.  Just hit it hard once a week or even two.

protein shakes make sure you follow uo right after workout. Muscles weigh more than fat keep doing 5x5 you will bulk  as i did. Now 2 years  later im trying to loose and go with a jacked look, im 43 in july. Check out bodybuilders dot com. Oh and i got up to 425 squat it goes quick.

10x10's are also pretty sweet. may only get 2-3 exercises in per workout, but a great overload and more in the range of hypertrophy (if thats what you are looking for).  Obviously choosing multi joint exercises would be most beneficial for this type of workout.

depends what your goals are ... If you're training for hypertrophy the 5x5 / Bill Star program isn't ideal, at least not longterm.

The 5x5 will give you a good strength/size base. I kind of ditched it for a 5x5/doggcrapp hybrid.

Ex: I do 1-2 warmup sets then I hit my 5 rep squat. After that I take the weight down a bit and start doing 1 rest pause set (do 4 reps of a weight you can normally do 8-10 times, then rest 10 seconds, then do 4 reps, etc. - repeat until you can no longer do 4 reps)

It has been working for muscle building AND fat loss, pretty rare as most people say garbage like you cant do both at the same time. On this I only do 1 exercise per body part.
