Looks like this horse might be the horse to beat at the derby.

With all the front runners in the derby like Hansen & a bunch of others........you can have him, I want no part.

Right now I am looking at Gemologist & Creative Cause as my derby horses............

I'll say one thing. If no one goes with Bode on May 5th, the race is over. I've seen it before in big races where everyone fears a ton of speed and they all try to rate.... and someone takes whats given to them and wires the field.

It's going to be a spectacular betting race.

Bode
Union Rags
Hansen
Creative Cause
I'll Have Another
Gemologist
Dullahan
Alpha

You're Derby winner is among those 8. I might just pick out of a hat

Take Charge Indy is going to be a top 5 betting choice because of Calvin Borel and the Florida Derby win. No doubt about it....

Everyone remembers 2002 when Bafferts War Emblem wired the field, I would be shocked to see Baffert wire the field again in the KD.

There isn't all that much speed in this years derby. Of course there will be a fast opening quarter with everyone jockeying for position but then it is just hansen and bodemeister. We will see who else decides to send their horses to the derby. In my eyes the derby is
California- creative, bode, ill have another
Fla- Union Rags
Bluegrass- Dullahan

Fat Roll has it spot on. The only other horse with any pace besides Bode/ Hansen is Take Charge Indy and he wants no part of a duel with Bodemeister. Bode has such a high cruising speed that he doesn't give a garbage who else is running. He passed Stat today on the clubhouse turn running in 23 flat for the first quarter and ran sub 23 his previous race. He will run his race and any horse that tries to take the lead from him will need to be vanned off the track. Empire Maker's can run all day and that horse ran his last 1/8 in under 12 seconds. For a 3 year old with 3 prior races that is absolutely incredible. Just saw his Beyer got posted as a 105. 101 101 105 Last 3. He is shipping straight to Churchill on Monday and will be ready to go. This horse has the best chance of winning the Triple Crown in the last 5-10 years.

Derby Predictions:

1) Bodemeister
2)Gemologist
3) Union Rags
4) Daddy Long Legs

McShwab I forgot about take charge. So that is three horses. All three have showed ability to rate(to some degree). We have to remember that one of the horses could get post 20 which compromises the chance of getting on the lead. Another could break bad. I think betting a race assuming a torrid pace is a bad idea because you never really know.

Usually there is a horse in the derby that HAS to have the lead. We don't really have that from what I have seen. Those horses are what make a wicked pace. I think Hansen and Bode like to be on the lead or near it but more importantly they just have high cruising speeds. That doesn't make you a speed horse per say

Rockford was probably right.   He "shot his wad" in the Rebel.  Career best fig.   Probably bounced.    Needed more than 28 days off.

I thought that because the Rebel was his first signs of life in 2012 that he might have another run in him.   I was wrong.

He got knocked around a little bit in the run to the first turn too.

Grey, I thought Optimizer would fire knowing Lukas needed a 1st or 2nd to have his only horse in the derby but I guess he doesnt get the horses he once was getting.............

Lukas still hoping Optimizer makes Derby field (ARTICLE)

Prior to his run in the Arkansas Derby, Optimizer finished full of run when second to Secret Circle in the Grade 2 Rebel on March 17. Lukas expected the bay son of English Channel to improve off that effort.

"I have no explanation for the way he ran (in the Arkansas Derby)," Lukas said. "I thought he was the horse to beat. He had the best three weeks of his life leading up to the race."

Optimizer arrived at Churchill Downs on Monday evening and will visit the track for the first time Thursday morning to jog.

"He's doing great," Lukas added.

How funny would it be if Optimizer some how got into the Derby and fired a big one again like he did in the Rebel?

Probably not very funny at all to anybody because our tickets would be    .

Like I said before the Arkansas Derby though, when this horse wants to run,  he's been very competitive with a lot of the top horses that are going to be in the Kentucky Derby.
