Reasons why they wont cover the 28:

w. mich qb might not play and if he play, he wont be an effective passer as he been this year. Besides, one good hit on his throwing shoulder and he will be even less effective in the passing game

w. mich dont want to have any more possible injuries before playing in a bowl game, so they will play just enough to win by three TDs instead of four.

Western Michigan is sitting in a precarious position going into the final game of the regular season Friday at home against Akron.

The Broncos are bowl-eligible with a 6-5 record, but there's no guarantee six wins would give them a spot in a bowl game. Certainly a convincing win at home against Akron would enhance the Broncos' position.

"It's extremely important," Broncos defensive tackle Drew Nowak said of claiming a victory in the finale. "We need to handily beat them -- offense, defense and special teams. We need to come out with a team effort and show we deserve a chance at a bowl opportunity."

The Broncos at midseason looked like a certainty for a bowl game. Their play at that point made them look like one of the top teams in the Mid-American Conference.

But Western Michigan hasn't played nearly as well in the second half of the season, and its stock has slipped. Another win would certainly spruce up their resume.

--Western Michigan's running game has been hit-and-miss this year. The attack was mostly swing-and-miss Nov. 16 against Miami. The Broncos rushed for just 42 yards on 23 carries, a paltry 1.8-yard average per carry.

--LB Woody Legrier, DT Drew Nowak and rover Johnnie Simon all registered career-highs in sacks against the RedHawks. They combined to make five sacks.
