I think for many that personal experience/reality piece is missing and will often "cut and run" in discussions when it is not about the same old tired liberal/conservative BS... Which is great because a thread like this shows their inability to engage in civil independent minded discussion
I think that it is interesting that the two men had different perspectives... showing that each individual has a unique point of view... I always question the validity of perceptions that talk about "those blacks" or what "blacks/whites, liberals/conservatives think"... once again overgeneralizations to over simplify issues to point that feeble minds can try to assimilate to the cognitive structures of their brains....
I do agree with the idea that when something tragic happens people should pull together and I would go a step further and say try to do make things better... this could be changing the law, it could be trying to be supportive of the people involved, this could be addressing others in a respectful manner on the issue... the options/choices of things that people could do to make things better then worse are limitless...
I would say however that this is the problem with having a president that
is not black and at the same time
is not white...
I think this is simple fact a part of why in how obama chose to address this issue and make it worse... and why people with strong emotions/fears/hatred/bias seem to be going bananas on this topic and in this forum...
Fact of the matter is that obama was not raised by african americans, he did not grow up with other african american peers or families or community... Obama went to a school with the highest casucasian ratio of students then any other school in the state... so he is essentially lost when it comes to relating and addressing black issues because
he is not black nor is he is product of or familiar with the
black community...
What I believe he has done however is try to prove his blackness and try to be a community organizer and try to act like he understands the projects and black poverty when the reality is when went to a college prep private school for the most entitled and advantaged people in the state...
So when he tries to identify with travon, my thinking is that he is trying to make himself look more black because he has a long history of compensating for the fact that
he is not black... and when I say that I mean not only that he is half-white, but also raised by caucasians and grew up in a sheltered upperclass caucasian private school environment... So he is disconnected from the black culture, mindset and experience that many african americans identify with as their culture...
So in my mind obama failed because he took this story and made it about making him look "blacker" instead of trying to heal the nation... and those with a pro or anti-african american race/culture sentiment then mindlessly reacted out emotionally... I think that for many swallowing the fact that the president is not white is still a hard pill to swallow so wacko birther conspiracies and whinign and complaining dominate while the ability to come together and make things better seem immposible
It is funny how the obama obsessed attack him on the most desperate at petty things, but when I put out a logical theory based on the president's actual real life history that is compromising his ability to the be the leader we need people dont get it...
Perhaps because it is not one of the prescribed partisan talking points they have been programmed to argue... Im sure the aliases compulsively spouting their BS on yet another pscyho travon thread...
Perhaps psycho birther conspiracy theories are more their language
