Defamation burden is way to high. Zimmerman is a public figure (whether he likes it or not). Proving intent, falsity, and malice would be very difficult here.

OJ could have made the same claim BTW. The media reported many things about the case that apparently the jury disregarded as being not true.

(*Also not that article mentions twice that Zimmerman told police he was getting his head bashed onto the sidewalk)

Though all the listings for the police report I find all say "partial"

Another black on white attack because of this matter:

Owens' sister, Ashley Parker, saw the attack. "It was the scariest thing I have ever witnessed." Parker says 20 people, all African American, attacked her brother on the front porch of his home, using "brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on."

Police will only say "multiple people" are involved.

What Parker says happened next could make the fallout from the brutal beating even worse. As the attackers walked away, leaving Owen bleeding on the ground, Parker says one of them said "Now thats justice for Trayvon."
