Makes my point even more. A 3rd string soccer player deciding a game!

And yes, I should have added Beemer's decision to go for the fake punt as another reason for the loss. And he called TO before the fake and basically alerted Michigan who kept their 1st string D in!

But the real tragedy of this game was reversing that awesome catch by the same guy who didn't pick up the first down on the fake punt. VT outplayed Michigan but kept finding ways to screw up that game.

Another stupid thread. They are and will stay part of the game. Anyone who thinks they are making a "point" against them? Who cares.

No FGs allowed inside of 20 yards. Force coaches to get 3 points from a distance. Inside the 20, you need to produce...or die. Very American.

I bet someone like you said the same thing about the NFL never having the two-point conversion. Or baseball never going to the DH. Or instant replay.

Move with the times of get left behind.

The FG will be tougher to get rid of, I agree. But we've moved it back 10 yards and they now have to kick off the ground. It used to be a tee!

Like I said. You want the kicker deciding these games?!

Evans should have held onto that TD pass.

As much as I hate FG`s, I don't see they problem with them.

Your average field position (in college) is about the 30 yard line. Move the ball 45 yards and you are almost guaranteed 3 points (for most teams). Move the ball another 25 yards and you add 4 points (to what was "almost guaranteed"). Miss and they other team gets the ball.

So when it's 4th down and 2 from the 30 yard line, after your team moved about 40 yards already, you can take the 3 points, which you will only get about 50% of the time in college, or you can go for it and GUARANTEE yourself 3 points with a shot at 4 more.

In the NFL, they would punt on 4th and 1 from ANYWHERE on the field. You see 18 yard shits when going for it can get you 7 points and missing would awkwardly pin the other team inside their 5.

Imagine if you eliminated FG's, now you automatically have 4 downs and can get 0 points after marching down the to the 10 yard line.

I wonder how that would affect betting lines ? No FG. TD = 7 points automatic, unless you wanna "go for it" and make it 8. No XP's. Punts and kickoffs still in the game as a return for a score can still be made possible.Only 7 point scores (the majority of the time). Then there would be no need to ever "go for the 8". Will all lines be set at multiples of 7 ?
