#1 Posted: 2/24/2011 10:24:25 PM Concerning an advancement on a structured settlement...
I'm in possession of a structured settlement that pays roughly $3000 a month for life. In five years, the monthly payment roughly doubles to $6000 for life. I am looking to bridge this five year gap with an advancement of $20,000.
The quotes I am getting are outrageously high at 20% interest. This CANNOT be considered reasonable, can it???
Can somebody recommend a DECENT company to deal with? I've already talked to JG Wentwoth and Stone Street Credit. These people are blood suckers.
There HAS to be a reputable company to deal with in this area.
Any suggestions appreciated.

#2 Posted: 2/24/2011 11:00:31 PM Why do you need the money so badly that you are wanting to give some of it away (working with these type of firms is giving some away as you know)?
Have you tried to get a loan against it from a bank that you have accounts with?

It gets a little tricky dealing with conventional banks because my wife has some past credit issues.
I'm not in a desperate position, it would just give us a little breathing room. You get used to a certain lifestyle and get stubborn about giving in about anything.
I just find it difficult to believe that a 20% interest rate against a GUARANTEED ASSET is business as usual.

#4 Posted: 2/25/2011 12:27:34 AM Of course it isnt but those two places are fishing on tv all day long, which of course means they will be predatory in nature.
Did you look in the phone book locally?
It would be tough not to tap into it but if it were me I would only think of that in case of medical emergency, job loss, catastrophic events etc. That is an awesome income stream to throw away due to lifestyle cramps. |

#5 Posted: 2/25/2011 1:22:18 AM Goose, try prosper.com
Is your credit above average?
You can lay out your entire scenario on there, people will loan you the money. If you think that 20k is a lot to ask, try 10k. From what i've read, you can get 10k @ 7.9 on there, it will be from 2000 different investors at 50 a pop, but that's A HELL of a lot better then 20%

#6 Posted: 2/25/2011 11:51:02 AM Thanks fellas. I will dig a litter deeper here on the local scene and also try prosper.com.
My credit is fair, my wife's is poor, but we are talking about a GUARANTEED LIQUID ASSET here, MUCH better than a car or house or property.
Hey, if we have to wait the five years until the $6k monthly starts to roll, then so be it. It would be nice to have that little bridge between here and there, but we won't starve without it.
It is just amazing how greedy the power kings can be.

I don't think it is a liquid asset.
