I agree law and sociology are different, but often times laws are made based on the norms and social rules...

I think age is a part of the context...  if a young child were to comment on a stranger's weight out loud in public the common reaction would be different then an adult... Both individuals are speaking honestly but are treated differently by society... Not saying it is fair, it is how it is...

I took this as a typical right-wing response, trying to imply that Obama is a UN-American monster, who killed and ate a dog.

If you don't have a problem with it, I apologize for attacking you, but I will say that the right-wingers that are attacking him for this are racially and culturally insensitive.

I mean out of all the things you can Obama for, people are choosing something he did when he was six years old in another country to try and make political points. Inhale and Sigh.

I think the instance that I described would be funny.  I do not know that I would describe him as an un-American monster for eating a dog.  I think it is vile, and would never do it, but understand that things are done differently in different cultures, of which he was a part.  I think the American people are still coming to terms with having a president who comes from a different culture.

on top of that I think obama's true mixed race/culture/background is too complex for the people who's paradigm is the black/white box...

So confusion and misunderstanding leads to fear and hate... the basic life blood for certain groups of people

I think it is pretty typical to look down one's nose at a group with disdain that hears of dog eating and is appalled without regard for where they come from or what life experiences they have had.
Everyone acts like every part of America is a hotbed of equality, and multiculturalism.

Why is blind acceptance of strange cultural norms from around the world a virtue?

Rick, I’m for learning and understanding not blind acceptance. We are supposed to be the moral standard for the world. Learning and understanding other cultures should be a virtue in the United States of America. It all has to do with what kind of strange cultural norms you're talking about.
