gotta agree with " TB"
This is making the Canucks signing of Garrison look like a steal at 4.6m a year!!! |

#78 Posted: 7/5/2012 9:32:20 PM I think the Carle signing is about their lack of depth and poor drafting, I assume they don't have anybody coming up through the farm system anytime soon, same with the recent Ducks signings as well. |

#79 Posted: 7/5/2012 10:36:31 PM Its funny because most Philly fans garbage on Carle.
But he got lucky, its a weak FA pool and someone was going to overpay. I always thought he was a product of Pronger. Not sure if his play regressed that much without him.
Also the cap is now 70 million so if you want to compare contracts with obes that happened in the past it makes more sense to look at how much % of the cap a salary takes up. As tge cap goes up, so will salaries obviously!
And Garrisson isnt a bad deal really. Its quite well known that he took less money. |

#81 Posted: 7/11/2012 4:01:46 PM after overpaying for Matt Carle, here's a GOOD "resign" by Stevie Y in Tampa....
from TSN.ca, "The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed forward Teddy Purcell to a three-year, $13.5 million contract extension." ref >>> http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=400287
he along with Stamkos and St Louis were about the only bright spots in a disappointing season for the "Bugs". he's the prototype "big body with skills" forward every team is looking for.

#82 Posted: 7/11/2012 6:40:44 PM think this is a DEAL for the Capitals >>> http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=400390
"The Washington Capitals signed unrestricted free agent forward Wojtek Wolski to a one-year contract on Wednesday. The Washington Post reports that the deal is worth $600,000"
WW has always had great potential and at 6' 3" 215 lbs he could be a "big body with skills" sniper on the right line. seems like $600k a low price considering some of the signings this off season.
IF this works out like it could for the Capitals, there are going to be a LOT of GM's, including Ray Shero in Pittsburgh, with egg on their face. |

#84 Posted: 7/14/2012 1:58:05 PM The Winnipeg Jets have re-signed forward Kyle Wellwood
ref: TSN.ca >>> http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=400529
good BUT rather small two-way player. he has been a + his whole career ex for his last year in Toronto in 2007-08 before he went to Vancouver via one year in the KHL and was solid with them. good leader in Winnipeg and is a Don Cherry fav. |

Wellwood has some nice intangibles - great faceoff guy, good at shootouts, but this sums up the knock against him throughout his career:

I think it's a gross "overpay" for a guy who can't stay out of the infirmary |

#87 Posted: 7/16/2012 6:14:21 PM That's a gross overpay for sure here. I just wonder how much of the contract is "pay to play" ? |

#88 Posted: 7/21/2012 2:04:39 PM good signing for the Blues >>> http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=401029
The St. Louis Blues have agreed to terms on a five-year contract with forward T.J. Oshie worth an average annual value of $4.175 million. don't think this is an "overpay" for an offensive "impact" player
also >>> http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=401042
Centre Sam Gagner has agreed to a one-year deal with the Edmonton Oilers worth $3.2 million. 18 goals and 29 assists for 47 points last season. in just one game vs Chicago he had 4 goals and 4 assist |
