Too bad these huge crowds aren't as passionate about things that really matter.  Maybe if they spent the day volunteering or doing something worthwhile the world would be a better place.
I'm embarrassed for those that are hanging their hat on spring ball attendance.  Breaking attendance records only indicate that stupidity is growing...all to watch a practice.

The Red Sox are in last place and have the worst (or 30th best )pitching staff in MLB.

The Celtics are among the oldest teams in the NBA and are fading fast.

The Patriots window is also closing as it been 7+ years since they have won a Super Bowl.

Then there is Boston College who routinely finishes at the bottom of the ACC in both football and basketball.

Then you have the SEC who currently has the reigning National Champions in basketball in the Kentucky Wildcats.

In baseball the South Carolina Gamecocks have won the last two National Championships.

And of course the SEC owns football as between the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU Tigers, Florida Gators, and Auburn Tigers, they have the won the last 6 titles in a row.

Armpit of America ?

You're just another bitter envious northerner.

Good day sir !

This is where the mentality of SEC country is vs. the rest of America.

SEC fan cheers for all SEC teams which now encompasses 14 teams(I believe).

People like Detox and myself support ONE city, or ONE division 1 college team. I understand maybe supporting a second division 1 college team for moral reasons or maybe a friend or family member went there. But I can never understand supporting the rest of the conference.

I'm a Michigan State fan. Occasionally I would like to see Michigan when a game(pretty much the N.D. and Ohio State games). But the rest of the year I'm not cheering for them.

I can't stand Ohio State. I can't stand their fans. Their mentality and arrogance and nothing made me more happy than seeing the whole Tressel/Pryor thing unfold.

The only way I would ever cheer for them in a game is if OSU's winning somehow benefited Michigan State. That is it, no exceptions. I even enjoy watching them getting pummeled against arrogant SEC football teams year in and year out.

What I could never do though is cheer for them. I just don't understand how SEC teams can cheer for their rivals like that or take satisfaction in another school in their conference winning a national title.

Vandy isn't hanging a basketball banner because Kentucky won the title. Same for Georgia because Bama won a football title.

So I definitely agree that life is different in SEC country and you're correct that northerners aren't going to understand.

I'm just not sure that anyone is envious of watching their rivals win a national title. I sure as garbage wasn't bragging about Michigan co-national title in '97 or Ohio State's gift title in '02.

Did the LSU fans throw Bama a parade when they brought the title home?

I'm sure he will if he uses the same tactics Tressel did. As long as I don't have to hear about Meyer being a "leader of men" and having "outstanding morals and ethics" then so be it.

I just don't want to hear the hypocritical bull garbage about a head football coach being an outstanding citizen and leader. When in reality he is using questionable ethics and borderline cheating to get players to help win games.

I guess that is actually why I like Saban(besides the fact that he started at MSU). He is an behind hole and basically doesn't try to hide it. He is there to win football games by almost any means necessary within the rules.

I just loved seeing Tressel being put on this pedestal for so long and being perceived like he was some outstanding coach that would never ignore NCAA violations and would always do the right thing regardless of onfield consequences.

Oh and don't get to used to that Basketball title Calipari one you guys(I'm assuming you're a UK fan since your in Kentucky, forgive me if you're not), if history holds true it will be sitting next to his Final Four banners from UMass and Memphis soon.

Its very easy to explain why alot of SEC fans want the conference to do well as a whole... The winner is just about guarantted a place in the championship.. due to it being the best conference in football... not sure why that is hard for anyone to understand...

one or two good teams a year does not warrant the hype they get and thus the SEC is over rated.

I would understand why you would want the conference to do well during the out of conference schedule. I would also understand cheering for your team during the conference schedule or cheering for other teams to win so that it may benefit your team in terms of rankings or computer stats. I get all that.

What I don't get is why a Florida fan would cheer for Georgia during this past Outback Bowl. Or why an LSU fan would cheer for Florida during their bowl game vs. Ohio State. This is the part I don't get.

You are cheering for your (so called) rival. Where is the animosity? What ever happened to my two favorite teams are Auburn and whoever is playing Alabama?

This is the part I don't understand.

Why even where shirts that say Alabama, LSU, Florida, Georgia, Mizzou? Why not just get one that say "SEC" and save yourself the time and money?

I don't know one Big Ten fan that was sad to see Michigan lose to Appalachian State a few years ago. There are YouTube vids of OSU, MSU, and PSU fans cheering when that final score was announced.

And please don't get me confused on this subject either. I am not saying that the SEC is not the best conference, because they are.

I just don't get the fan mentality as far as cheering for the conference as a whole. I don't get it because I wasn't cheering for OSU in this years Final Four. I didn't want UK to win it either but that has more to do with Calipari than the UK program.

Actually one of my favorite college hoops teams of all time was Pitino's "Unforgettables" team that lost on the Laettner jump shot. I just love stories like that where the guys on the team go through some serious adversity and don't quit, and don't leave when things are really bad.

I honestly think that UK team might be my fave all time college hoops team and they didn't even make the Final Four.

I was intentionally "over the top" with my SEC post (#20) in an attempt to agitate and/or irritate I_Need_A_Detox .

I do however support most of the SEC schools when they are not playing Tennessee. The exception being Florida who I detest and wish only the worst for (although I did root for them in the NCG when they played OSU). Since James Franklin has arrived in Nashville,I'm starting to feel the same way about Vandy as well. As far as Missouri and A&M are concerned it will take me awhile before they are no longer viewed as outsiders.

I have lived in the South my whole life and have dealt with many ignorant people such as Detox who like to portray us all as uneducated racists. For me part of my devotion for the SEC stems from my love of and pride for the South. I realize that it does seem a bit extreme to others but there is a definite bond between true Southerners that I don't think exists in other parts of the country.

I admit if there is a true bond between southerners than I will never understand that as far as sports go. I admit to SEC football being a different way of life. I can respect your devotion to SEC football. It is kind of similar to English Soccer in terms of how it dominates the region and takes over the sporting news stories. Same as what hockey does for Canada.

I just don't see English football fans cheering for each others teams when it has no impact on their teams. However I do think that Canadians would cheer for any other Canadian team in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I think that is true only because they have gone so long without having a cup and hockey is so important to them.

The SEC has owned college football for over a half decade now. I see no reason for any SEC team cheering for another without it benefiting their own team.

It definitely is a way of life and a different culture altogether.
