#1 Posted: 5/10/2012 10:01:50 AM I went to Colombia and just looked at my phone bill. It says $1700
I didn't have service. I used wifi on my phone. I am assuming it was data charges. WTF. |

could be roaming charges for data which could be as high as 50 cents a megabyte ...best check with your provider

#10 Posted: 5/10/2012 10:13:55 AM odds are you are going to be stuck with the vast majority of it, but it behooves you to call your carrier and explain the situation. they may cut you some slack. overseas data rates are a major assfuck for most people.

#12 Posted: 5/10/2012 10:54:06 AM I went to Samoa recently and called my carrier in advance. They said turn off roaming and strictly use wifi and you are good to go.
No xtra charges other than overseas calls.

#14 Posted: 5/10/2012 12:29:37 PM If you had the wrong setting activated, you could have been charged 2 cents per kilobyte. simple emails are like 50 kilobytes. so everytime you looked at a simple email, you were charged a dollar. I think a simple website page is like 100 kilobytes. so everytime you checked a sports score or refreshed, you were charged 2 dollars. you could rack up 100 bucks in the matter of minutes doing this.
If you didn't turn off "EDGE" or whatever while you were WiFi'ing it up, you could have been charged this money. |

#19 Posted: 5/10/2012 6:37:24 PM I'm glad it worked out for you. Even if it didn't, you just stiff the company and go down the street and sign up with another cell phone company. Then have them pull your number from the other carrier and you're good to go. |
